Did you know we do lei making parties?

All your guests will learn to make their own fresh flower lei and discover some fun and interesting facts about the history and traditions of Hawaiian leis. In addition we will also do a short hula performance or teach a few hula steps.

Or if you would like a longer performance we are available for Polynesian Dance shows including dances from Hawai’i, Tahiti and New Zealand.

We can also provide you with Hawaiian Shave Ice! Both kids and adults love the snowy treat on a hot summer day. It’s the perfect addition to your backyard party or corporate function.

Japan Earthquake Relief Cultural Fundraiser
When: Sat. April 30, 10 am-3 pm
Where: Pikes Peak Community College Atrium, 5675 S. Academy Blvd., Colorado Springs (I-25 Exit 135)
Cost: Free, donations accepted

The students of Pikes Peak Community College and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs host a Japanese Culture Arigato (Thank You) fundraiser with proceeds going to Japan America Society of Southern Colorado. There will be food, fashion show, calligraphy, origami, and other cultural demonstrations, anime showings, karaoke singing, shakuhachi flute performance and martial arts demonstrations.

Hula Performance & Fundraiser for Japan Relief
Keaka o Kalani cordially invite you to our hula and Polynesian dance school’s first annual Ho’ike/ dance showcase. The school has generously decided to donate 100% of all proceeds to Direct Relief International’s Earthquake and Tsunami Response!

Pi’ilani Hawaiian Civic Club of Colorado will be presenting the first annual Ho’olaule’a

The Ho’olaule’a is a free event that celebrates Hawaiian and Polynesian culture and goodwill. Plans include entertainment, craft booths, food vendors, cultural workshops and activities for children.

(I found this article in the Asian Avenue magazine and thought it was interesting especially since I myself turn bright pink when I drink)

The phenomenon known as the Asian flush, or Asian glow, is a consequence from consuming alcoholic beverages that affects many of Asian descent. Bright pink to red faces make it an easy-to-spot condition, which, for some, may lead to higher levels of embarrassment.

Cause and symptoms
The flush is caused by a weakness in the enzyme ALDH2, which helps people metabolize alcohol. The redness comes when the body begins to accumulate acetaldehyde, a by-product of the alcohol.
