Homeland Security pops smuggler, 55 lbs. of reefer at Boulder airport
0Suspected drug smuggler arrested by Boulder County Drug Task Force
Not a terrorist threat, say feds
A pilot flying a small, single-engine plane was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Boulder Municipal Airport after the Boulder County Drug Task Force found approximately 55 pounds of marijuana on the plane.
Carl Gruber (DOB 8/09/1966) was arrested on suspicion of Possession and Possession with Intent to Distribute (between 5 – 100 lbs.). He is from Bethel Island, CA.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested the assistance of the Boulder Police Department and the Boulder County Drug Task Force on Saturday. DHS had been tracking the plane and contacted local authorities when it landed at Boulder Municipal Airport. Any questions about why DHS was monitoring the plane should be directed to the Department of Homeland Security.

Although DHS is involved in the investigation (and has impounded the plane), there was never an issue of any immediate danger to the community. The Boulder Police Department would have notified the public if there had been a concern; this has been a narcotics investigation from the beginning.
Leslie Nielsen, who starred in Airplane and Naked Gun, was a favorite of movie-watching potheads.
As this is an open and ongoing investigation, the Boulder County Drug Task Force and the Boulder Police Department will not be releasing further information about this case.
Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Boulder Police Department’s Tip Line at 303-441-1974 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.

Boulder Airport Day to be held June 18 COOL FUN VIDEO #boulder
0 Boulder Municipal Airport will host its sixth annual Airport Day and open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Boulder Municipal Airport, 3327 Airport Road. The public is invited to climb into dozens of different types of aircraft and enjoy the region’s rich aviation history. Admission and parking are free for this event.
“With lineage dating back to 1928, Boulder Municipal Airport has played an amazing part in aviation history,” said Boulder Municipal Airport Manager Tim Head. “On Airport Day, we bring out the planes, old and new, to celebrate. It is a great combination of fun and education that everyone in the family can enjoy.”
In addition to showcasing airport amenities, the event will feature numerous types of aircraft, including military helicopters, sport airplanes, experimental airplanes, WWII aircraft and antique airplanes. There will also be kids’ activities, shops, food vendors, and rides for purchase in a helicopter and an open-cockpit bi-plane.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., there will also be up to six hot air balloons conducting a joint lift-off. Spectators may park on the east side of the terminal building, at 3335 Airport Road, to watch the launches from up close.
