Boulder Green Mountain Lodge to host grand re-opening July 21
Jul 15th
The City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) invites you to the Grand Re-Opening of the historic Green Mountain Lodge on Thursday, July 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. Green Mountain Lodge is located at the terminus of the Ranger, Long and Gregory Canyon trails near Realization Point on Flagstaff Road, 3.4 miles up from Baseline. Refreshments will be provided.
Green Mountain Lodge was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), an agency which was part of the New Deal during the Great Depression. The rustic Lodge was built for the use of the people of the community of Boulder. It features two fireplaces and a patio, and the interior is lined with historic ‘graffitti’ left by visitors through the years. The Lodge was closed due to disrepair a number of years ago, but has recently been restored. After the July 21st Grand Re-Opening, it will be available for rental along with other OSMP facilities, such as the Halfway House.
Parking is limited at Realization Point, so for visitors who would prefer not to drive, OSMP is offering a hike between the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage and the Lodge. The strenuous yet refreshing hike is approximately 2 miles (one way) and will leave the Ranger Cottage at 2 p.m. Hikers will travel up the historic Gregory Canyon Trail to the Lodge. Along the way we will admire the natural beauty while learning about the history of the area, arriving at the lodge at 4 pm. Hikers are asked to be prepared for unpredictable Colorado weather (hat, sunscreen, jacket and plenty of water). For more information, call Julie Johnson at 720-564-2012"
