Get ready for some crappy tasting Water Boulder

0

City of Boulder News Briefs
Residents may notice a change in taste of water starting Monday, May 2
City of Boulder water customers in Gunbarrel, Heatherwood, Hoover Hills and areas north of Arapahoe Avenue and east of Foothills Parkway may notice a slight change in water taste on Monday, May 2, when the Utilities Division switches water sources from Boulder reservoir to the Boulder Feeder Canal.
Water source changes are a normal part of water treatment and distribution operations. No service interruptions are expected while the water source change occurs.

The possible taste change is due to differences in source water chemistry between Boulder Reservoir and the Boulder Feeder Canal.

For more information, contact the city’s Betasso Water Treatment Facility at 303-441-3249.

The City of Boulder and Governor’s Energy Office will offer energy rebates beginning April 19

The City of Boulder and the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) will be offering rebates for various energy upgrades beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 19, as part of the state’s Recharge Colorado campaign.

Boulder residents will have the ability to use their zip code on the Recharge Colorado Web site (www.RechargeColorado.com) to view the available rebate and energy upgrade opportunities. The City of Boulder has provided funds to ensure a certain number of the following rebates are available to Boulder residents:

· insulation and air sealing;

· duct sealing;

· efficient furnaces; and

· energy audits.

Residents can tap into the campaign at www.RechargeColorado.com where they can reserve a rebate online. As a supplement to the Web site, a call center will also be available at 1-800-462-0184. Please note: The Web site and call center will not be operational until 8 a.m. on Monday, April 19. There will be no information at the Web address or call center number prior to that time.

The GEO and its local partners expect brisk consumer action, particularly for ENERGY STAR dishwashers, clothes washers and refrigerators. The ENERGY STAR appliances account for about 16,000 of the rebates available. In light of that, it’s important for consumers statewide to have realistic expectations and recognize the “sweepstakes” nature of the program.

The Recharge Colorado Web site and call center were developed to help Boulder residents and people across the state learn how to make energy savings a simple part of their everyday lives.

Recharge Colorado creates a one-stop clearinghouse of information and resources by bringing details about products, rebates, tax breaks and other benefits offered by the Governor’s Energy Office, utilities and local governments across Colorado to a single place. The Recharge Colorado campaign is also teaming with the Better Business Bureau to help consumers connect with the many outstanding energy efficiency and renewable energy service providers.

Rebates overview:

Through the Recharge Colorado campaign, the Governor’s Energy Office, utilities, cities and counties across the state are partnering to offer money-saving rebates and programs to enable Coloradans to participate in the New Energy Economy. Rebates can be reserved through the Recharge Colorado Web site beginning April 19, and will be available until the money runs out. Rebates include:

  • Replacement appliance rebates for clothes washers, refrigerators and dishwashers;
  • Home upgrade rebates such as insulation, furnaces and water heaters; and
  • Solar electric and hot water rebates and wind rebates.

The GEO and its partners are providing roughly $18 million worth of rebates for Colorado with this program. The money is expected to provide approximately 75,000 rebates, including about 16,000 rebates for ENERGY STAR refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers.

The City of Boulder learned earlier today that phony door hangers were distributed

0

to some residents that appeared to be from the Environmental & Zoning Enforcement Office (EZEO) of the Public Works Department. The fake door hanger referenced sidewalk crack cleaning as a violation of municipal code citing 6-3-17 of the Boulder Revised Code (BRC).

There is no 6-3-17 in the BRC. There is no duty to keep the cracks in sidewalks, “free of dust and insect larvae.” This appears to be an April fool’s joke. If residents get a door hanger that references 6-3-17 BRC, please disregard and recycle.

While we recognize this may have been an attempt at humor, the City of Boulder would like to caution residents about making phony documents on behalf of the city and/or impersonating official city personnel. This could be a citable offense, in some situations. Misunderstandings can result in staff time that could be spent on other city and community priorities.
Residents can verify any tickets from EZEO by calling 303-441-3239.
