There is good nightly "baseball in Boulder
It is called the Legion leagues named after the American Legion. The A teams are mostly 17-18-19 year old young men who are heading toward College ball in other states. They have a full summer schedule playing teams from all over Colorado, Manhattan Kansas, Wyoming, Utah and Enid Oklahoma. They meet at the Scott Carpenter park base ball field each night ( almost) at approximately 5:00pm for a double header. The field is a private/public partnership, but has been turned into a first class facility from private donations. It is a miracle what they did.
You can tell by the states and cities involved that this is some serious baseball. Boulder channel 1 News stopped by last night and watched a team with Boulder High players play a team with Pamona high players except it wasn’t high school ball. It was Legion ball . This is the best kept secret in Boulder. The price of tickets? How about free. There was a play by play announcer, (sort of), a PA system, between innings music, and a smattering of a crowd. The stands should be full. In a depression like economy, this is free entertainment for the whole family.
Boulder used to have CU baseball but that came to an end over 20 years ago to the shock of many. So this is the closest thing we have to real good baseball. Baseball is the all American sport. It is in a class of it’s own. You either love it or don’t have enough sense to sit down and relax before you have your first heart attack. Baseball is ballet, poetry in motion, a thing of beauty. As Ring Lardner the most celebrated baseball sports writer in history once said “One can never get enough baseball”

Hi I will have to stop by Scott Carpenter and watch a game. By the way – did you see the Rockies beat the Giants the other night?
My two favorite teams!

Enough said…
Thank you for the article about that jewel in the heart of Bouler, Scott Carpenter Park. Last night was a beautiful night under the lights accompanied by two exciting games. The ambiance of Scott Carpenter, including new dugouts and outfield, is the result of thousands of hours of volunteer time from the Diamond Baseball folks, plus generous contributions from the community. Let's get Boulder out for some baseball this summer.
Well written article above. It captures the essence of what's really going on at Scott Carpenter. I was at Carpenter for the first time in a year and there is nothing better for the soul than to watch good baseball on a warm summer night…I just averted my first heart attack.
I love baseball. Check out the book on Ted Williams by John Updike.
And, I'll drop off an hour show for your channel, if you like.
I'm all for baseball.
