Flagler College 4Angela Mazza, Flagler College sophomore, was recently awarded a $3,000 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a program designed to help undergraduates participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Mazza is the first Flagler student to earn a Gilman Scholarship.

“I am ecstatic about receiving this award,” said Mazza, an elementary education major at Flagler. “It is an honor to be the first Flagler student to receive this scholarship and I hope that many more follow.”

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is funded through the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000 and is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

Mazza will be joining several classmates on a trip to Peru this summer to study Spanish immersion and Andean culture.
