Obama pulls plug on wolves life support

Obama Administration Strips Wolf Protections Across Most of Lower 48 States

Plan Ends Prospects of Wolf Recovery in Southern Rockies, California, Northeast, Pacific Northwest

WASHINGTON— In a move questioned by some of the World’s leading wolf researchers, the Obama administration announced plans today to prematurely strip Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves across most of the lower 48 states, abruptly ending one of America’s most important species recovery programs. The proposal concludes that wolf protection in the continental United States, in place since 1978, is no longer needed, even though there are fledgling populations in places like the Pacific Northwest whose survival hinges on continued federal protection.

Most wild wolves will lose federal protection. The sates have interest in protecting wolves--a key animal in ecosystem health.

Most wild wolves will lose
federal protection. The states have little or no interest in protecting wolves–a key animal in ecosystem health.

“This is like kicking a patient out of the hospital when they’re still attached to life-support,” said Noah Greenwald, endangered species director with the Center for Biological Diversity.  “Wolves cling to a sliver of their historic habitat in the lower 48 and now the Obama administration wants to arbitrarily declare victory and move on. They need to finish the job that Americans expect, not walk away the first chance they get. This proposal is a  national disgrace and our wildlife deserve better.”

Wolves today occupy just 5 percent of their historic habitat in the continental United States. Today’s proposal means that wolves will never fully reoccupy prime wolf habitat in the southern Rocky Mountains, California and Northeast, and will hinder ongoing recovery in the Pacific Northwest.

The proposal will hand wolf management over to state wildlife agencies across most of the country – a step that has meant widespread killing in recent years. Following removal of protections for wolves in the northern Rocky Mountains and western Great Lakes in 2011, states in those regions quickly enacted aggressive hunting and trapping seasons designed to drastically reduce wolf populations. In the northern Rocky Mountains more than 1,100 wolves have been killed since protections were removed; this year populations declined by 7 percent.

“By locking wolves out of prime habitat across most this country, this proposal perpetuates the global phenomena of eliminating predators that play hugely important roles in ecosystems,” said Greenwald. “Wolves are well documented to benefit a host of other wildlife from beavers and fish, to songbirds and pronghorn.”

In response to a petition from the Center for Biological Diversity, today’s proposal maintains protections for the Mexican gray wolf as a separate subspecies. Only 75 Mexican wolves roam a recovery area restricted to portions of Arizona and New Mexico. The population has not grown as expected because of a combination of illegal poaching and government mismanagement that requires wolves to be removed from the wild or killed when they leave the recovery area or depredate livestock.

“It’s obvious that Mexican gray wolves continue to need protection and we’re glad they’re getting it,” said Greenwald. “But it is equally obvious that wolves in the Pacific Northwest, southern Rockies, California and Northeast also need continued protection.”

Press release–The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 500,000 members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.

Poll: Majority of Americans Want Congress Out of Keystone XL Pipeline Decision, Oppose “Eminent Domain,” Worry About Water, Wildlife

0

Obama Voters Strongly Opposed to Keystone;

Strong Majority Would Feel Betrayed or Disappointed if Approved

WASHINGTON— With the U.S. Senate poised to vote on the Keystone XL pipeline this week, a new national poll commissioned by the Center for Biological Diversity finds that a majority of Americans oppose Congressional intervention requiring the construction of the 1,700-mile oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. A majority also oppose the use of “eminent domain” — taking private property without landowner approval — and are concerned about the pipeline’s impact on water and wildlife.

xl

Opposition was particularly strong among those who voted for President Barack Obama last year: 68 percent oppose building the pipeline, 76 percent are concerned about its contribution to climate change, and 57 percent believe approval would break the president’s State of the Union vow to fight climate change.

“President Obama promised to steer America toward a safer, saner energy policy that doesn’t sacrifice our climate and wildlife for oil company profits,” said Kierán Suckling, the Center’s executive director. “It’s clear that most Obama voters believe this promise requires the president to reject the Keystone pipeline.”

The Senate this week is expected to consider placement of a rider on the “continuing resolution” funding bill, which would force approval of the Keystone XL pipeline. If passed, the rider would short-circuit the State Department’s detailed environmental, economic and social-justice review, as well as its decision-making authority.

The national poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling on March 15, 16 and 17. It included 1,122 voters of all kinds and 536 people who voted for Obama in the 2012 election. The poll has a margin of error of + or – 2.9.

Among the results from the poll of all voters:

53 percent said Congress should not pass legislation requiring that Keystone XL be built right away.
62 percent said private property should not be taken by eminent domain to build the Keystone pipeline.
55 percent said they are “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about the project’s impact on water and wildlife.

“Americans take a pretty dim view of Congress, and most don’t want it anywhere near the Keystone project,” said Jerry Karnas, field director at the Center. “Keystone XL is a dangerous project for wildlife, climate and our environment. It deserves to be carefully considered by those who understand the long-term impacts, not hastily decided by politicians who’re easily swayed by the oil industry’s army of lobbyists.”

Among the results from the poll of Obama voters:

74 percent said the project is not in the “best interest” of the United States.
68 percent said they disapproved of Keystone.
76 percent said they were “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about Keystone’s environmental impacts.
76 percent said they were “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about its impacts on climate change.

Obama voters also indicated the president’s legacy and trustworthiness are at stake in the Keystone decision:

61 percent said they’d feel “disappointed” or “betrayed” if the president approves Keystone.
57 percent said approval would break the president’s State of the Union vow to reduce the threat of global warming.
69 percent said Obama’s legacy should be about clean-energy innovation and solving climate change rather than expanding oil, gas and natural gas production.

Background
The proposed Keystone XL pipeline would, every day, carry up to 35 million gallons of oil strip-mined from Canada’s “tar sands” — some of the dirtiest fuels on the planet. The pipeline would cross the heart of the Midwest and deliver oil to the Gulf of Mexico, where most of it would be exported to other countries. Along the way the pipeline would cut through rivers, streams and prime habitat for at least 20 endangered species, including whooping cranes and pallid sturgeon.

The mining of Alberta’s tar sands is also destroying tens of thousands of acres of boreal forest and polluting hundreds of millions of gallons of water from the Athabasca River, in the process creating toxic ponds so large they can be seen from space. Extraction and refinement of tar-sands oil produces two times more greenhouse gases per barrel than conventional oil and represents a massive new source of fossil fuel pollution that leading climate scientist Dr. James Hansen has called “game over” for our ability to avoid climate catastrophe.

TransCanada’s existing Keystone I pipeline has reportedly leaked 14 times since it went into operation in June 2010, including one spill of 24,000 gallons. The State Department’s environmental reviews have pointed out that spills from Keystone XL are likely to occur, estimating that there could be as many as about 100 spills over the course of the pipeline’s lifespan.

What the hell happened over at CIA’ did Petraeus attempt a coup with Republicans ??

0

Jann Scott’s Journal

Are you expecting me to believe that the director of the Central Intelligence Agency for the United States of America was unseated by two dumb married bimbos named Paula Broadwell and Jill Kelley??

If that is really the case then General David Petraeus was set up by shear stupidity and his incompetence to do the Job.

We are talking about the CIA here. The world largest counter espionage agency in the world. It is 15 times the size of the renown British intelligence.  It finances 125 other Intelligence agencies world wide. It’s budget is nearly the size of the Department of Defense. CIA budget comes from 27 combined budgets putting it at approximately 1.6 trillion dollars topping the defense budget of 600 Billion dollars.

My CIA destabilizes governments, assassinates heads of states. funds armed rebellions in the middle East including the one which sacked the US Embassy in Benghazi.

What really happened over at CIA? I don’t think the good general had the stomach for the job.  I mean, considering. CIA is in charge of all kinds of illegal activities abroad: like spying, robbing , stealing, misinformation, lying cheating and killing.  So what happened??

The head of the CIA doesn’t get caught up in a sex scandal.  It does not happened and anyone who has ever worked at CIA knows that.  They aren’t that sloppy over there.  Somebody fucked David Patraius because he wouldn’t play ball and do his job. that somebody was Barrack Obama.  Obama wanted Patraius out and the FBI made sure it happened right after the election. Right? Two days after the election the scandal broke.  The FBI was complicit.

Bengahzi was clearly Petraeus falt. He let the embassy be taken. He did not send in special ops to hold the fort. He sat on his dead ass and got everybody killed.  Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette sat on his aircraft carrier Stennis strike group and would not send in the Marines to secure the Embassy. That’s what happened.   He has since been relieved of his command and is now under investigation for conspiracy and treason.

Patraisu then gave the White House and state department bad information. He conspired to ruin the election for Barrack Obama with his Republican Cronies and it back fired. Petraeus and the Republicans are behind the Bengahzi attack.  Petraeus armed the Alcaida rebels who attacked the embassy. He orchestrated it. Then when it went down he would not send in the Calvary.

He used the CIA to rig the election and when it didn’t work the White House set about to really fuck him up,  His co conspirator John Allen was also caught up in the Scandal.  Before this is over Obama will fire all of the Generals in the Middle East. There are a few admirals on their way out.

The Republican tried to do to Obama what they did to Carter. But Obama got wise to them through the FBI and he set them up.  That is why Romney went nuts when he didn’t win.  He thought the fix was in.

We Americans want a CIA that is tough as balls and we don’t want anybody fucking around with it.  We don’t want any Arab Spring here and we don’t want any Jihad attacks on any American installations anywhere.

Now lets get our black ops up and running again and lets get the Republicans out of the CIA.

This is a bit of an embarrassment for all of the men and women who work for the CIA.  They are  going to have to reestablish street cred.  You know our enemies are laughing at us.  On the other hand getting rid of a boy scout like Petraeus with a sex scandal is  poetic justice and they ALL KNOW IT.

So is everybody tracking on this one.

Straight up General Petraeus and Admiral Gaouette cause a near coup  on their watch during a hot war

Obama wins landslide vote re election 2012 Presidential Election

1

Yes He did !!!!!!!

At 8:03 Mountain time. It sure looks that way.  President Obama is winning all of the battleground states right now. He is winning in Nevada. Winning in Wisconsin  winning in Ohio and winning in Florida  He has won New Hampshire.

Right now it looks like he won’t win Virginia, but he could. Obama is winning in Colorado. And he is winning Iowa. Game over.

There are no two ways about it. This is a landslide victory for the the democrats and Barack Obama.  So much for all of the noise by the Republicans  over this past year.  Barrack Obama will beat Romney by more than 100 points.
The popular vote is perplexing.  Mitt Romney is slightly ahead of Obama. But this one is over.

Flagler’s Children’s Musical Theatre presents “Let Your Hair Down Rapunzel”

Rene Shwartzbuckle has an obsession for a turnip-like vegetable called rapunzel. After spotting a delectable patch of the plant in Witch Izwitch’s garden, Rene sends her husband to “borrow” some. When the witch has her malicious henchmen terrorize him, he agrees to give his firstborn child to the witch in exchange for unlimited amounts of the plant.

Sixteen years later, the child, a daughter named, you guessed it, Rapunzel, has been placed in a tower, destined to be rescued in the children’s musical play, “Let Your Hair Down Rapunzel,” presented by Flagler College’s Children’s Musical Theatre class.

“We make a point of selecting shows that appeal to the child in all of us, ” says director Phyllis Gibbs. “We hope everyone will be entertained.”

The play will be presented at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 and 2 p.m. Nov. 10-11 in the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St. in St. Augustine.

Tickets are $10 and $5 for children. A special Tea Party with the characters will be held after the Nov. 10 performance by reservation only. Tickets to the performance and Tea Party are $20 for adults and $10 for children. For more info, call 904-819-6217.

Flagler Professor to Deliver Keynote Election Night Speech in New York City

Will Miller, assistant professor of public administration at Flagler College, has been invited to serve as the keynote speaker for an election night dinner hosted by Danske Capital at the New York City Public Library on Nov. 6.

Miller will be speaking before roughly 150 invited guests including internal representatives from Danske Capital along with select clients who are primarily CEOs and CIOs from Northern Europe’s leading pension funds, insurance companies and capital funds.

“The 2012 Presidential race is shaping up to be one of the most interesting of our time. With a clear difference between the views of the two major party candidates and a fairly polarized electorate with few truly undecided voters, all of Election Day will be spent looking at turnout and exit polls,” said Miller. “A small handful of voters in a few number of states have the potential to select the course of our country as we look toward the next four years.”

Miller’s presentation will focus on an overview of both the Romney and Obama campaigns and how their policy beliefs will potentially impact the economies of Northern Europe along with relationships between our nation and the region. He will be providing a detailed discussion of both demographic and polling trends in key battleground states and will be offering an analysis of exit polls as they become available and issuing predictions based on that data as merited. Miller’s research focuses on public opinion and electoral studies.

Miller has published an edited volume on the Tea Party’s impact on Senate races and American politics in 2010. He has two additional volumes set to be released in early 2013-one looking at the 2012 Republican Party nomination and the other on the Tea Party’s impact on 2012 races.

The dinner and Miller’s address serve as the culminating events for Danske’s two-day Capital Summit Seminar Program entitled “The U.S. & Global Economy: Outlook and Investment Implications.”

In lieu of an honorarium, Danske Capital will be donating to Flagler College to establish a textbook scholarship for students within the Public Administration Program.

“This is an excellent opportunity to speak as a member of the Flagler College faculty to an audience of international investors in a historic location about a potentially monumental election and help further awareness of our first-rate academic programs and students,” said Miller. “To be able to have Danske Capital make a donation to help students in the Public Administration Program only makes the opportunity that much more exciting.”
