Temporary bicycle parking areas added for Easter Parade spectators
Parking locations will serve those who choose to bike instead of driving to annual event
In addition to the dozens of new bike parking locations installed or upgraded in recent months, the city is adding temporary bicycle parking areas to accommodate spectators at this year’s Easter Parade. The parade is scheduled for Sunday, April 20 at 3:00pm.
The temporary bicycle parking areas will be located in front of City Hall at 75 King St. and on the northeast corner of Orange St. and Cordova St. The temporary parking areas will accommodate approximately 250 bicycles and is free.
Just as with the new permanent parking locations, the city’s two-fold goal is to serve the growing number of current bicyclists and to encourage more bicycling, especially during the city’s many special events. While the Easter Parade draws many visitors, it is also a local event, and so there is a greater likelihood that residents will choose to bike to the event rather than drive, especially given the closed streets and parking restrictions the event requires.
By providing a large number of easily accessible bicycle parking locations it is hoped that bicyclists will refrain from parking on private property or along the right-of-way using street signs and other fixtures which often block sidewalks.
