Edwin Augustus Moore Special Exhibit at the Lightner Museum – The private collection of Edwin Augustus Moore paintings will be featured as a special exhibit at The Lightner Museum through May 1. Moore was an American painter, traveler, journalist, photographer and composer who used St. Augustine for many of his landscape watercolor subjects. He visited the ancient city in 1895 along with other members of his artistic and eccentric family. How mariners navigate their ships by using the location of celestial bodies is the theme of a special weekend presentation at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum, 81 Lighthouse Ave. Friday from 3-6 p.m. visitors can help Lighthouse archaeologists unlock the secrets of long-lost shipwrecks. Saturday at 9 a.m., visitors can meet and work with traditional wooden boatbuilding as they build a boat from centuries gone by. Searle’s Sack of St. Augustine
Authentic re-enactment of Captain Robert Searle’s 1668 attack on St. Augustine. Searle and his privateers sailed from Jamaica to loot the silver ingots held in the royal coffers at St. Augustine. During the day, the Raiders will have an encampment set up at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in the evening re-enactors will attack the city’s Spanish soldiers and colonial citizens. Beginning at the Plaza at 5 p.m. townspeople and soldiers will flee up St. George St. to the City’s historic gate at Orange and Cordova Streets where the skirmish continues. Night Fest at The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum

School of the 16th Century
A three-day course titled “How To Survive in the 16th Century” provides an in-depth look at the clothing, weapons, food, history, resources and more at the 1565 Menendez settlement site. A celebration of the spicy little Datil Pepper. On Saturday, local restaurants participate in a cook off of recipes using the datil pepper. Judging is from 11:30am – 1pm! First Muster at Florida National Guard Barracks

The Florida National Guard and Florida Department of Military Affairs, in partnership with La Compañía de Santiago (The Company of St. James), a member unit of Florida Living History, Inc., will commemorate the 447th anniversary of the first mustering of America’s original citizen-soldiers and the “birthday” of the US National Guard. This heritage Event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Florida National Guard’s headquarters in the St. Francis Barracks, at 82 Marine St., in St. Augustine. Celebrate Florida’s rich and colorful literary heritage at the Florida Heritage Book Festival at the Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla Street in St. Augustine. Coastal Cleanup Day

From 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Local volunteers can join over a half million people in more than 150 countries cleaning up the shores of rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. Participants can pick up their supplies from the GTM Research Reserve’s Environmental Education Center, located at 505 Guana River Rd., Ponte Vedra Beach South or the Marineland office, 9741 Ocean Shore Blvd, St. Augustine. The self-guided and docent led tours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tolomato Cemetery, an historic cemetery is located on Cordova Street, the site of an earlier Franciscan Indian mission (Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Tolomato) in St Augustine. Burials officially ceased in 1884. Visits are free of charge, but visitors are encouraged to offer a donation. All money goes to the preservation and restoration of the cemetery. Historic Haunts Author at Ripley’s
Jamie Roush Pearce, author of Historic Haunts Florida, will be signing copies of her book beginning at 6 p.m. at Ripley’s Believe It or Not’s Castle Warden in St. Augustine. Roush features Castle Warden in her book, especially the story of the two female hotel guests who died in a fire there n 1944.
