“Convoluted Way to Make Simple Point”
“Hotshots” looks at a movie!
Midnight in Paris is Woody Allen’s latest film, it was the opening film at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and it has been called one of Allen’s best movies in years.
You be the judge.
It takes place in the present, and so you might be surprised to know that some of the characters in it are Cole Porter, Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Josephine Baker, Gertrude Stein, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, T.S. Eliot, and a number of other well-known and not-so-well-known artists from the past.
How can this be, you ask?
Well, therein lies the story, which may or may not be a pun.
Owen Wilson stars as Gil Pender, Rachel McAdams plays his fiancee, Inez, and they are freeloading along with her father and mother on a business trip to Paris that her father is taking.
Even though Gil is a successful Hollywood screenwriter, he becomes enamored with Paris, and he tells Inez, “I can see myself living here.”
Gil happens to be working on a novel, and he considers himself to be a Hollywood hack who never gave literature a shot. He also says that he would have liked to have lived in Paris in the 1920s.
Well, one night after a serious wine tasting, Gil takes a walk through the streets of Paris while the others in the party all go dancing.
Gill is drunk, gets lost while trying to find the hotel, and just as a clock strikes midnight, a 1920s-era taxicab drives by full of party revelers.
They stop, and they invite Gil to join them and go to a party.
At the party, Gil is amazed to see Cole Porter playing the piano and singing, and he meets Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Later, they take their movable party to a cafe, and there is Ernest Hemingway sitting and drinking. Gil tells Hemingway about his novel, and Hemingway offers to show it to Gertrude Stein for her opinion.
Gil leaves to get his manuscript at the hotel, but when he immediately turns around to arrange where they will meet, the cafe is gone.
The next night Gil tries to show Inez what had happened, but she gets bored and leaves before midnight.
But it happens again.
Midnight in Paris is a convoluted way to get a simple point across.

Colorado National Speedway late model feature race
Jun 9th
Jann Scott and Autotv1 went back to Colorado National Speedway last night to cover the Late Model NASCAR short trtack stock car race race, but what we saw, was a night of very exciting racing in all classes. We show here a video highlite of the race which we shot on a flip Mino HD cam designed for the we. It was on a tripod and allows us to edit and post instantly without tieing up editors and staff. We will continue to experiment to try to bring you excellent local racing.
FROM COLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY NEWS:
It was a night of thrills and spills at CNS as cars wrecked and a past champ returned to the oval for a Mother’s day race that most moms won’t soon forget!
Gillett Veterinary Clinic Late Models
Starting Top 5: 12, 74, 27, 42, 31
40 Laps
The Late Models didn’t disappoint, putting on a show for the ages as #12 Bruce Yackey, #74 Dan Savage and #42 Ronnie Hults shuffled back and forth in an epic battle for the lead. Yackey’s time in 1st was short lived but not easily given up as “Speedy” Ronnie Hults and “The Savage Man” Dan Savage ganged up on the multiple time CNS Late Model championship winner and passed him 25 laps to go in the 40 lap event. #90 Frank Denning spun out in turn 2 bringing on caution and a double file restart. The leader Dan Savage opted to take the outside on the restart. It was a wise tactic against Hults who has a penchant for taking down competitors via the outside. Savage took the lead but Hults found his groove on the inside and pulled up for an old fashioned drag race. Not a moment after Ronnie snagged the lead, Grazier and Fisbeck got together bringing on caution. The fate of Dan Savage seemed sealed when Ronnie opted for the outside on the restart. Racing resumed and Hults shot to a 5 car length lead but contact between hard charger #66 Darren Bucklen and #27 Roger Avants sent Avants careening into the wall between turns 3 and 4. A pile up ensued and severe damage to the #27 and #66 machines ended the both drivers chances at winning the feature. Racing resumed with Hults back on the outside of row 1 and subsequently back into the lead. Hults took the win followed by Dan Savage, Bruce Yackey and #55 Jesse Runkle.
Pair-A-Dice Sportsman
Starting top 5: 43, 6, 49, 84, 98
30 Laps
Lee Kemmit took the win for his qualifier and wowed the audience again at the Sportsman Main Event, quickly moving to the front of the field from a start in 5th place. Nearly half way through the 30 lapper, Kemmit approached and flawlessly weaved by lapped traffic. The Sportsman finished out their race in style, with a yellow free race. Kemmit took the win followed by his teammate #6 Tommy Roe, #42 Stan Griffin and #8 Jeff Walbaum.
Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks
Starting top 5: 32, 09, 27, 11, 26
30 Laps
#32 Mark Neff maintained the lead through the first 6 yellow laden laps of the Pro Truck Main Event. #34 Rudy Vanderwal took Neff down at lap 7 but some crazy antics by multiple drivers along the back stretch brought on the 19th yellow flag of the event thus far. #07 Chris Leaf took a black flag and the rest of the gang lined up for a restart. After green flag racing resumed, with some fancy moves, #11 Jace Hansen maneuvered past #34 Rudy Vanderwal, Mark Neff and #27 Roger Avants for the lead. With 5 laps to go, the top 4 leaders had 10 car lengths between them, Hansen in 1st followed by, Vanderwal, Avants and Simonson. Hansen held on for the win.
NTC Trucking Super Stocks
Starting top 5: 02, 13, 09, 39, 3
25 Laps
#13 Jason Morris took down #02 Darrell Smith as they made their way around the oval in lap 1. Slowly but surely, 2010 champion #46 Rick Lothert navigated his way past Jack Nugent and Michael Cox for 2nd place. #19 Scott Miller showed equal skill as he made his way from a start in 8th place, taking 3rd behind Lothert. At lap 11 Lothert and Miller advanced single file past Morris, taking 1st and 2nd respectively. Soon after, a battle raged for 2 place between miller, #39 Jack Nugent and Jason Morris. Behind Lothert, Miller seemed the favorite leading the pack of 2nd place hopefuls until the final lap when Nugent rocketed past Miller taking 2nd by only a few inches. Lothert took the win.

“Limitless” More Like ‘Overblown’
Mar 29th
LIMITLESS takes its title from the idea of how many opportunities are available to us if we were able to use 100% of our brains instead of the mythological 20% that we use in our everyday lives.
However, scientists say that we already use 100% of our brains, and so the premise of the movie needs a better explanation.
Bradley Cooper plays Eddie Morra, a writer with a book contract, but he looks more like someone with an alcohol or drug problem.
That might be because he doesn’t act like a writer, either, because he is behind on his book, having written only one word, and that word is the first-person, singular pronoun “I.”
Eddie gets even more down on his luck when his girlfriend Lindy breaks up with him, but then his life changes dramatically when he accidentally meets the brother of his ex-wife on the street.
Vernon tells Eddie that he is working for a company that has come out with a new pill called NZT48 that lets you access 100% of your brain, but then he gets interrupted by a phone call and has to leave.
However, Vernon gives Eddie his business card and one of the NZT pills “on the house,” saying that they normally cost $800 apiece.
And the rest, as they say, is this movie.
Special effects show an impression of what happens to Eddie when he takes the pill. “I wasn’t ‘high,’ I was just clear,” he tells us in voice-over narration. “I knew what I wanted to do and how to do it.”
And he does. The next morning, the effects of the pill have worn off, and Eddie gives his book manuscript to his publisher, saying that if she doesn’t like it, he will return the advance.
Then when Vernon doesn’t return Eddie’s calls, Eddie goes to see Vernon with the objective of getting more pills.
And here is where the movie starts leaving the audience with unanswered questions.
Here is also where more characters enter the story, including a Russian loan shark and his hooligans, a financial businessman played by Robert De Niro, a mysterious man who seems to be following Eddie around New York City, and even Eddie’s ex-wife, Melissa.
LIMITLESS makes a thriller out of limitless opportunities, but it is more like “overblown” with unanswered questions.
