Not a terrorist threat, say feds
A pilot flying a small, single-engine plane was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Boulder Municipal Airport after the Boulder County Drug Task Force found approximately 55 pounds of marijuana on the plane.
Carl Gruber (DOB 8/09/1966) was arrested on suspicion of Possession and Possession with Intent to Distribute (between 5 – 100 lbs.). He is from Bethel Island, CA.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested the assistance of the Boulder Police Department and the Boulder County Drug Task Force on Saturday. DHS had been tracking the plane and contacted local authorities when it landed at Boulder Municipal Airport. Any questions about why DHS was monitoring the plane should be directed to the Department of Homeland Security.

Although DHS is involved in the investigation (and has impounded the plane), there was never an issue of any immediate danger to the community. The Boulder Police Department would have notified the public if there had been a concern; this has been a narcotics investigation from the beginning.
Leslie Nielsen, who starred in Airplane and Naked Gun, was a favorite of movie-watching potheads.
As this is an open and ongoing investigation, the Boulder County Drug Task Force and the Boulder Police Department will not be releasing further information about this case.

Why Men Flash
Indecent exposure is the most common sexual offense. Another nationwide study that surveyed 243 community agencies found the
most common sexual offenses were inappropriate sexual behavior in public (62.2%), sexual behaviors and stimulation that inappropriately involved others (42.6%), sexual activity involving minors (42.6%) and assaultive/nonconsensual sexual activity not involving minors (34.5%) (Ward et al, 2001). Another study found the most common sexual behaviors are those seen among people without developmental disabilities – offenses against children, genital exposure and rape (Murphy, et al., 1983).
Such behavior often stems from not having enough opportunities for appropriate sexual expression, ignorance of what is considered appropriate, inadequate social education and poorly developed or absent self-control. Other factors include:
Lack of information about or opportunities for sexual expression and intimacy
Lack of social skills and training on appropriate/safe sexual behavior and building relationships resulting in a significant lack of sexual knowledge
A history of sexual or physical abuse (research shows a higher rate of sexual victimization among people with developmental disabilities compared to those without disabilities)
Exposure to violence and/or pornography Socioeconomic factors Pervasive use of restriction in daily life Limited or no available sexual partners Difficulty projecting consequences of behavior Difficulty recognizing and expressing emotions
Significant others deny the behavior is happening (Nezu et al., 1998).

Why Women expose themselves
Women are generally not arrested for indecent exposure or flashing because men like it. Women flashing by young girls is condoned in Boulder and men routinely pay for it at strip clubs like the Bus Stop. Though some researchers say strip clubs add to mens sexual frustration because no release can be found there. Women also flash in bars and there never seem to be arrests.
Indecent exposure by women also never seems to be reported in Boulder. On hot days women can be seen all over Boulder in various stages of disrobe and no one seems to complain, In fact men like it.

Sketch of armed robbery suspect released by Boulder police Police continue to investigate three armed robberies which have taken place in Boulder since last Thursday. The first armed robbery took place on the CU campus on August 11. The second robbery occurred on the Boulder Creek Bike path at about 4:00 p.m. Monday, when the suspect ordered three women into the creek and then stole their purses. The third armed robbery happened in a parking garage at an apartment complex at 23rd and Pearl, as the victim was removing items from her car.
None of the victims was hurt. The suspect brandished a handgun in each of the robberies, and has become increasingly brazen. In last night’s armed robbery at the parking garage, the suspect lifted the hem of the woman’s dress so he could see her underwear, and forced her to touch his groin.
Victims have given similar descriptions of the suspect in each of the robberies, and the Boulder Police Department and the University of Colorado Police Department believe the robberies are related.A sketch of the suspect from the parking garage robbery and the Boulder Creek Bike Path robbery is attached.
The suspect is described as:
- · Hispanic male in his 20s
- · Round face
- · 5’6” – 5’8” tall
- · Stocky build, about 160 pounds
- · Short dark hair, possibly “spiky”
- · Riding either a silver or red bicycle
Police are conducting a focused investigation and are increasing patrols in response to the robberies. Citizens will notice a higher police presence in the areas of the bike path, downtown, and the University Hill.
Investigators remind residents that the suspect is dangerous, and that they should call
9-1-1 if they see anyone resembling the suspect or who may be acting suspicious. Do not approach the suspect.
