It started at 7:00 am on Sunday and didn’t end until 4:00 pm with streets like Iris backed up to a dead end for hours. it has terrible planning. What should have begun at 7:00 am and ended at noon went on all day into a terrible nightmare for Boulder. The city needs to act. But will they?

usan Klahr3d·Palo ParkYes another year, another disorganized debacle. Apparently, some parts of Boulder had no issues. They loved it. It seems residents of North Boulder don’t count. Map missed disclosing significant road closures in North Boulder. Boxed in for hours. Unacceptable.Reply

13Sola DiDomenico3d·Wonderland HillsI wonder if Sundance will be 2 weeks of the same…..Reply

9Nicko van Someren2d·Mapleton HillSola Have you seen any suggestion that there will be road closures during Sundance? The detailed resource page on county site doesn’t mention any. I’ll be surprised if they close anything more than Pearl from 9th to 11th.I really don’t get the huge negativity that so many people have around an event that will bring out of season visitors to many small local businesses and is paying to spruce up a bunch of local venues for us to enjoy all year round.Reply

2Jonathan Woodard3d·NewlandsSigns have been up for weeks and the route map was published online, what more do you want?Reply

4Solveig Landswerk3d·East BoulderJonathan I didn’t see any signs where I went. Didn’t know about it until Saturday. Tried to get to church on the route the police said was enabled but they changed it Sunday morning so o never got thereReply

2Janna Tyrer2d·Twin LakesPat Some people missed their flights.Reply

1Sheila Peck3d·WhittierFirst World Problem! I live off Mapeton and 24th, great fun watching and visiting with the participants and those cheering them on. Yes, the streets were closed off, but oh well! I used my trusty French press and enjoyed my cup in the yard saying hello and chatting. Not a horrid ‘stuck in’!Reply

7Glen Gordon3d·West PearlSheila WE LIVE IN THE FIRST WORLD!Reply

1See more repliesSue W.3d·Melody HeightsI was caught unawares also but considered it my own fault for both forgetting what I had read and also, not reading carefully to begin with. Ha. Don’t stress…let it flow….pivot and enjoy yourself another way.Reply

6Tony K.3d·Table MesaWhy not walk, run, or ride for coffee. Such a first world problem, “driving for coffee…”Reply

5Mark B.1d·Greater JamestownTony I’ve never understood the “driving for coffee” culture. People who wait longer in their car in the drive-up window line than they would spend lying in bed with their spouse having their first cup of the day together.Reply

3Eric Janson3d·West PearlI guess we inadvertently chose the right weekend to go to the Bay area. We also had no idea that such an event was going to happen!Reply

1Dana Comiskey3d·WhittierHad to get very creative to get home. This was after the streets were supposed to be open again. I actually slightly enjoyed the challenge, lol.Reply

2Debbie McCombs3d·Mohawk FoothillsSo. Deal with itReplyPaul M.1d·Longmont, CODebbie we did, frustratedReplygregory ames3d·Brigadoon GlenThis is getting ridiculous. Niwot road seems to be the ONLY road that bikers will ride. We have had too many events along the same path this summer. There are many beautiful places to hold bike races, runs, and marathons. Try a new venue once in awhile! And speaking of this… is the expensive bike path along the diagonal going to be used? I’d put money on it that bikers never use it. Let’s see what happensReply

2Bobbi O.3d·North Altonagregory It’s not only Niwot Rd, our surrounding roads, Nelson, 63rd and, of course, Hwy 36 are always impacted, too. Not sure why there can’t be bike events in South Boulder, using the Morgul Bismarck roads and suchReply

3Casey Stil3d·Longmont, COPoor planning!!!!!Reply

3Marilyn Keinath3d·Rural North BoulderThe newspaper and race website said Jay would open at 1. It did not, and cars were turned around at 47th.Reply

4Karen Herman2d·SugarloafI wondered what was going on…I have been out of town for the last couple of weeks and had not seen the signs. I ended up being OK since I seemed to be going the opposite direction from the race, but sure saw lots of closures and police cars. Also it must have been the tail end of the race since not many people. Lucked out. Sure was a mess at the watering stations.ReplyDan Powers2d·Olde Stage SettlementUsually, I will receive a postcard talking about it, but nothing. I had no idea it was going on and where. I couldn’t get home onto Lee Hill from Foothills.Reply

2RJ Zimmerman2d·Martin AcresSorry for your loss?Reply

2Peggy Vigliotti2d·North Lafayette Park/Hillsborough KnollsOh, I’m so sorry. Maybe have your coffee at home. Or find a different way. How often are the races. If every sunday then thats not to good, once in a bit. Your problem.Reply

1Tabia Swanson2d·Author·Rural North BoulderPeggy You are in Lafayette…Replygregory ames1d·Brigadoon GlenPeggy almost every week. Come and see for yourselfReply

1Cris Good1d·Orchard CreekSame :(ReplyStephanie Danielson1d·ValhallaWhy do you need to go to coffee in your car on a day that you know will be congested with an exciting event??? Make coffee at home for once! I seriously don’t understand why people can’t be more understanding or even happy that these things happen in our community. We should feel honored we have world class athletic events at our doorstep. If you want peace and quiet move out to the country or way up in the mountains!Reply

2gregory ames1d·Brigadoon GlenStephanie we live out in the country. And have for 60 years. Coffee at home is nice but so is going to church on a Sunday morning. How about the bikers give us a chance to do what we enjoy. Fair is fair.Reply
