Boulder Star Wars – Revenge of the Seth!
Sep 22nd
the voice of Boulder
(from all things boulder)
Sept. 22, 2010 Boulder The seasons are turning and so are the stomach’s of Boulder’s City Council. The City has a agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by Boulder citizen and local activist Seth Brigham to the tune of $10,000. Or 10 grrrrr in today’s hip jargon.
In case you missed it or don’t know Seth – he stripped down to his undies (boxers not briefs, thank heaven) during a recent City Council meeting and was promptly asked to leave the room. When Seth refused – he was arrested. Since no charges were filed, (taste or lack thereof is still not a crime) Seth filed some charges of his own. He sued the City, claiming his civil rights were violated. Whether they were or weren’t is a mute point now that the City decided is was cheaper to hand him ten grand rather than fight his suit in court.
So here are my talking points on this matter.
Doesn’t the City employ a full time attorney to handle this sort of thing?
Why didn’t City Council just say – we were wrong – you were right – were sorry – undress anytime you want?
Aren’t taxpayers owed an explanation of how it was worth $10,000 rather than admit any “wrong doing”?
Can a well meaning, although disruptive, citizen be banned from Council meetings?
Since every City Council meeting is broadcast “live” on city-owned Boulder Channel 8 – why aren’t we distributing this ultimate “Reality Show” on MTV and making a fortune in ad revenues?
Boulder has an endless supply of interesting, albeit sometimes wacky, cast members to easily fill the 4-6 hour time slot and Seth is way cooler and far more entertaining than Snookie or The Situation will ever be. I think I’m on to something here… Or, maybe I’ve just had too much coffee.

Who Are You? What is your Life Path?

Find out in a new book entitled, Human Design: Discover the Person You Were Born To Be written by Chetan Parkyn and published by New World Library this month. The book cover is here through the courtesy of the publisher.
In 1972, while traveling in India, a psychic told the author that he should “get ready” to introduce thousands of people to a system that would enhance their lives. Over the next several years, Chetan was into face reading, Tarot cards, astrology, the I Ching and others. He found out about a teacher Ra Uru Hu who was teaching a new system called Human Design. Chetan studied this system which is a combination of four ancient wisdom traditions: astrology, the chakra system, the I Ching and the Kabhalah.
Chetan’s book teaches readers how to create their own life charts. The book includes some celebrity life charts from Madonna, Princess Diana, David Beckham and Sandra Bullock among others.
The “system” is a different way of finding self-awareness by using three keys: the type of natural being; authority which leads an individual to their own design by using their birth time and date; profile provides a portrait of how a person interacts with life and other people.

It is a fascinating philosophy and not light reading. Read it when you are in the mood to dig deep within yourselves. And, there is downloadable software to enhance reading this book.
THIS WEEKEND IN BOULDER:
Okay, this weekend is filled with activities in downtown Boulder and at the 29th Street Mall. Parades, music and much more are readily available.
On top of that the Four Mile Canyon Fire is out, people are returning to their home sites or homes to sift through their belongings. Time to let them heal. We will be covering the parade, if there really is a parade to honor firefighters, law enforcement and others involved in the recent fire. Pretty miraculous, wasn’t it, that 3000 people are safe after being evacuated either through the reverse 911 or the work of Boulder County Sheriff’s Deputies knocking on doors. What an exhausting 10 days!
Enjoy the lovely days and the football game! CU vs Hawaii. Aloha!
Boulder Supporters for Clean Energy

UPDATE: August 4 11:00 am
It Had to Happen
The City of Boulder will not renew the Xcel Energy Franchise Agreement according to a 6-2 vote at the Council meeting last night. City Manager Jane Brautigam’s stand was like a song ” let the contract go.”
Voters will be asked to vote in November for a special tax which, of course, would be passed on to consumers using Xcel energy. Looks like yellow shirt
Boulder Yellow Shirts Took the Street Corners Tonight!
All you have to do is put a piece of coal in your stocking…twirl around three times…and make a wish that Xcel Energy will go away and the City of Boulder will take over the community energy problems! Oh, my goodness! What did I say?
Well, on Tuesday, August 3 at about 5:30pm in front of Boulder’s Municipal Building, a crowd of supporters for the City’s taking on the energy issue, buying Xcel energy and making it environmentally politically correct took place with about 200 people on the corners of Broadway and Canyon.
I talked to two gentlemen who support the City’s stance. Tyler said, “I support the city for not renewing the Xcel franchise.” He said he was supporting renewable energy as an option. While Ken said he saw Boulder aggressively decreasing the carbonizing “but not as much as we’d like for Xcel. This is a “groundswell” with two paths,” he said. One is with Xcel committing to clean energy and the second looks at monopolizing energy! Anyway, there were children, parents, grandparents and they even held a press conference.
When I asked these two supporters about the City’s already stretched budget, Ken said “The City can afford it because citizens are already paying for it!”
So…
Boulder Supporters of City’s Stand on Xcel Energy and clean energy
It was a lovely, peaceful gathering with horns tooting and people waving signs. The weather was phenomenal!
I dare not say more!
