Boulder police honor employees and community members

On Thursday, March 7, 2013, Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner will present 24 awards to police department employees and community members to recognize them for their outstanding efforts to keep Boulder safe. The ceremony will take place at the Public Safety Building, 1805 33rd Street, starting at 3:30 p.m.
Outstanding Citizenship Awards will be presented to Dylan John, George Derrington and Nicholas Bonn for their actions that led to the arrest of a serial burglar who confessed to more than 50 burglaries in the University Hill neighborhood. Keith Hayse will also receive an award for assisting police in apprehending an armed shoplifter.
Department employees being honored include:
Medal for Lifesaving
Officers Adrian Drelles, Ashly Flynn and Ryan McAuley for saving the life of a suicidal man.
Award for Excellence
Officer Scott Adams for reducing repeat calls-for-service by developing a partnership between property owners and managers and helping them problem-solve;
Detective Chuck Heidel for his continued efforts in investigating and solving serious crimes that include the cold case arrest and conviction of Michael Clark for the 1994 murder of Marty Grisham.
Unit Citation
The Boulder County Drug Task Force unit, which is comprised of members of the Boulder Police Department, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Louisville Police Department, Erie Police Department and Lafayette Police Department for its work in solving two major drug cases. The investigations were lengthy and complicated and resulted in the arrests of major dealers in the region.

Officer Don Schuler after he resuscitated a heroin overdose victim;
Dispatcher Jamie Burch for her patience and quick thinking while helping a young boy get medical assistance for his unconscious mother;
Dispatcher Don Jackson for his patience and fast reactions helping a foster mother assist her choking infant.

Deputy, police officer and neighbor make a harrowing rescue

On Sunday, February 9, 2013 at 11:28 pm, the Boulder County Regional Communications received a report of an explosion and fire at 5479 Jay Road, just outside the City of Boulder. At 11:31 pm, Boulder County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff George was first on scene, to find the home on fire. A neighbor advised Deputy George that an elderly woman lived alone in the residence. Deputy George forced entry into the home and found 83 year old, Marvyl Holder on the floor in her bedroom.
The neighbor, John Walpole, followed Deputy George into the residence and assisted in removing Marvyl out of the residence. Boulder Police Officer Ed Burke, the second responder, assisted George in carrying Marvyl away from the residence just moments before a second explosion in the residence.
Fire personnel from Boulder Rural Fire, City of Boulder Fire, Rocky Mountain Fire, Lafayette Fire and Mountain View Fire responded and extinguished the fire. The Boulder County Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team (MAFIT) will investigate first thing this morning, but preliminary indications are pointing towards a gas leak. The home is considered to be a total loss.
Marvyl Holder and Deputy Jeff George were both evaluated by paramedics from AMR Ambulance and found to be alright, suffering from only minor smoke inhalation.

Boulder sheriff, FBI arrest bank robbery suspect

Yesterday September 6, 2012, members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office investigated the bank robbery of the Bank of the West, located at 97 2nd Avenue in Niwot, Colorado. The investigation led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the arrest of Thomas Charles Snyder II, 45 years of age, for one count of Aggravated Robbery, a class 3 felony and one count of Theft, a class 4 felony. Bond was set at $50,000.
After reviewing the bank surveillance video, deputies recognized the suspect as somebody that had been previously incarcerated at the Boulder County Jail. With the assistance of deputies working in the jail, they were able to identify Mr. Snyder as the possible suspect. Additional follow-up was completed and late last night deputies applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. Snyder’s arrest.
At this time, the whereabouts of Mr. Snyder are unknown and the Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public in locating him. Anyone with information may call the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Detective Section at (303) 441-3650.
