Improvements to 15th Street (Arapahoe to Canyon) scheduled to begin next week
Aug 23rd
The city will be adding new, wider sidewalks, trees and grates, an irrigation system, bike racks, recycling and trash receptacles, poles for “15th Street Design District” banners, and new light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights that the city will own and operate.
The city is also collaborating with Boulder High School students to create public art for the new 15th Street design. The student-inspired art includes a creative metal railing and sidewalk prints that gradually transition from human footprints to panther paw prints between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue. The foot and paw prints will be sandblasted and painted into the 15th Street sidewalks, along with design-related quotes.
“Fifteenth Street is an important corridor for Boulder businesses, students, residents and visitors,” said Executive Director of Downtown, University Hill and Parking Services Molly Winter. “The streetscape improvements will enhance the vibrant culture and unique character of the 15th Street Design District.”
The 15th Street (Arapahoe to Canyon) Streetscape Improvements are funded by the 2011 voter-approved Capital Improvement Bond. Boulder expands grant assistance available for low- and middle-income home buyers
Aug 22nd
The City of Boulder has joined other jurisdictions in the Metro Mayor’s Caucus in making homeownership more affordable through a non-repaid grant available to low- and middle-income buyers.
The program provides a competitive 30-year fixed-rate mortgage with a grant for down-payment assistance equal to 4 percent of the mortgage amount. Income requirements are less than $91,100 for households of two or fewer persons, and less than $103,000 for three or more.
“This is a great opportunity for qualified individuals,” said Jeff Yegian, acting manager of the Division of Housing. “City of Boulder participation in this program adds another resource to make homeownership in Boulder more accessible to low- as well as moderate- and middle-income households.”
Other conditions for participation include:
- Standard loan guidelines must be met.
- Buyers must have a minimum FICO score of 640 (660 for manufactured homes), and a maximum debt-to-income ratio of 45 percent.
- Buyers must complete a HUD-approved homebuyer education class. The class currently required of buyers for the City of Boulder Permanently Affordable Homes program satisfies this condition.
- Purchasers must occupy the home as their primary residence, but they do not have to be a first-time homebuyer.
There is no limit on the property purchase price, although it should not exceed the lender’s loan approval amount. This program is intended for purchase of a primary home, and excludes refinance or purchase of a second property. Approved structures include single-family detached homes, condominiums, townhomes, duplexes and manufactured homes.
This program does not require repayment and funding is expected to continue through approximately December 2014.
A complete list of approved lenders and additional information for lenders who wish to become approved for the program is available at the City of Denver’s website,http://www.denvergov.org/oed/DenverOfficeofEconomicDevelopment/HousingAssistance/MetroMortgageAssistancePlus/tabid/444354/Default.aspx, or email Stacy Houston at stacy.houston@raymondjames.com.

CU Soccer Set To Open 2013 Season With Colorado Cup
Aug 21st
“We want to win again,” said junior midfielder Darcy Jerman. “We’ve won the past two years and we want to keep that going. That will set us up for the rest of the season and give us some good momentum.”
Senior goalkeeper and team captain Annie Brunner says that the team expects to start the ’13 season with a Cup victory.
“Our expectations are always to win the Colorado Cup,” said Brunner. “That’s a key to starting off the season right. As long as the Cup is around, it’s our goal to win it.”
Second-year head coach Danny Sanchez is excited to kick off the 2013 season this weekend and looks forward to the competition.
“These are state rivals,” said Sanchez. “We don’t expect anything different this year. Playing UNC on Friday night at DU, we know that’s going to be a tough game. Colorado College made the NCAA tournament last year and they have been picked in the preseason to ultimately win Conference USA, which is a very good conference. We know that this year’s Colorado Cup is going to be a challenge but we’re really looking forward to it.”
The Buffs take on Northern Colorado on Friday, Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. The team will then take on Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. at Prentup Field in Boulder on Sunday.
Looking ahead to the regular season, Sanchez has several goals for his team, with Pac-12 play beginning on Sept. 28 against Stanford.
“We’d like to move up in the Pac-12 standings and then ultimately compete for the NCAA tournament,” said Sanchez. “We feel that we can do that. If we can move up in the standings, we can hopefully put ourselves in the position once we get into conference play to make a run at it.”
In 2012, Colorado went 2-7-2 in the Pac-12 (8-8-4 overall).
Stand Shoulder to Shoulder with head coach Danny Sanchez and the CU soccer team as they host Colorado College in the first Buffs athletic event of the year. In honor of the first home game of the season, we will be celebrating Student Appreciation Day, where there will be free Half Fast Subs and prizes for students that attend.
Make sure to sit in the Buff Brigade cheering section and help give CU a real home field advantage. Located at the north end of Prentup Field, the Brigade will be loud and spirited as they cheer the Buffs to victory!
