Household Hazardous Waste facility to close Dec. 18
Dec 10th
The existing facility will be open during regular hours (Wednesday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon) through Saturday, Dec. 18, weather permitting. Residents are advised to call the Household Hazardous Waste hotline at 303-441-4800 for closure information. The outdoor nature of the collection facility results in occasional closures due to extreme weather including below freezing temperatures, rain, snow, and high winds.
After Dec. 18, residents are encouraged to safely store their hazardous waste until the new facility opens. If this is not possible, residents are asked to call the HHW hotline to request an appointment to drop off waste. As-needed collection events will be held to meet limited demand.
The Hazardous Materials Management Facility will open in February and includes advantages such as:
• All-weather operation (not subject to weather closures)
• Improved safety and ergonomics
• Greater convenience with more than double existing operating hours
• Begin to serve unmet needs of business community
• Allow processing efficiencies through use of equipment, for example, to bulk latex paint
• Ability to maximize revenues from oil, lead/acid batteries, recycled paint
• Ability to store wastes for more cost effective shipping
• Provide space and flexibility for future processing needs
Business wastes will be accepted, by appointment only, starting in May. The new business service will be limited to those businesses that generate small quantities of hazardous wastes and that are classified by the State of Colorado as “conditionally-exempt small quantity generators.”
All wastes collected are reused, recycled or disposed of in an environmentally sound manner. The program protects the environment through reducing improper disposal of hazardous products to the ground, storm and sanitary sewers, and landfills.
Many toxic, corrosive, flammable or reactive products are collected, including:
• Home improvement products (paints, thinners, caulks, glues, solvents, etc.)
• Auto products (lead/acid batteries, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, etc.)
• Garden products (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.)
• Household cleaners and batteries, regular and compact fluorescent bulbs, pet, pool, and hobby products
More information is available on existing services at www.bouldercountyrecycles.net or by calling the Household Hazardous Waste hotline at 303-441-4800. For more information on the new Hazardous Materials Management Facility, contact Hilary Collins at hcollins@bouldercounty.org or 720-564-2224.
Boulders evil women on #Twitter: their techie boy-bitches this week on #Boulderfire #boulder
Oct 31st
by Jann Scott
This week we experienced the gang mob mentality of Twiiter hatemongering gone bad. Led by a few women one who calls herself @laurasrecipes and the other @fourmileheros. These two anonymous shadows are non existent; that is they have a picture and a name but they could be men or computer viruses. @fourmileheros colleced $1000s of dollars selling poster for Boulders fire in September but never sent us an accounting. To our knowledge she or it never gave any money to four mile canyon fire victims.
Worse they insert themselves into local issues and then start milking the crowds emotions. They have their loyal following of other equally anonymous women who look for a window of hate and then pounce. In our case they don’t like our reporting and then start threatening us.
some of the men include corporate engineers or mostly PR types who threaten companies to buy their services: Like brett greene and his girlfriend who are also anonymous non existant people on twitter.
When we track these people we always come up with websites that are sketchy, no address’s or phone numbers. They are Boulders hate speach militias on twitter. A very dangerous group of 20 somethings who hang out in places lie The Cup on Pearl Street.
They use intimidation, lies, slander, libel all on twitter to try to kill people, ideas, or anything they hate this week. So what we do is what we do best; tell you who they are , what they do and expose them both here and on TV. We won’t lay down for these Cretans (obviously) but local business’s need to fight back at this mob mentality on Twitter. It exists on Yelp and Facebook too.
Cyber bullying has become a national epidemic. So for us the best place to clean it up is right here in Boulder. We will take the worst offenders, find out who they are, where they live and work and then notify everyone connected with them of their gang affiliations and their attacks.
Dome Fire evacuees: Now you can go home: #boulderfire
Oct 30th
All mandatory evacuations of city neighborhoods in west Boulder will be lifted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. All residents and business owners west of 7th Street from Canyon Boulevard on the south to North Street on the north are welcome to return to their properties starting at that time.
Fire crews are still battling active fire west of the city. City residents in west Boulder neighborhoods can anticipate fire equipment in the area throughout the day. Residents may notice firefighting teams from other jurisdictions assisting with this effort.
Open Space and Mountain Parks trails in the evacuation zone will remain closed, and firefighters are asking for the public’s cooperation in staying off the trails and out of the area for recreational purposes.
The Dome wildfire originated near Dome Rock on City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks property on Friday, Oct. 29.
“On behalf of the city and emergency responders, we would like to thank the community for its cooperation and continued versatility during this event,” said City Manager Jane S. Brautigam. “We appreciate the diligent and exhaustive efforts of all of the responding firefighters.”
The North Boulder Recreation Center, 3170 Broadway, has resumed normal operations and class schedule today. Adult classes were cancelled on Friday due to health concerns related to the smoke.
The city encourages residents to remain alert and monitor local news and Emergency Operations Center updates for any changing information. For the most up-to-date information from emergency officials, visit http://www.boulderoem.com/emergency-status.
