Deadline approaching for scholarships available to multicultural students

Boulder County, Colo. – Scholarships ranging from $500-$1,000 each are available to low-income students through Boulder County’s Community Action Programs.
Applications are due by Friday, April 15 and are available at www.bouldercounty.org/government/pages/multiculturalawards.aspx.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Minimum one year residency in Boulder County
• Currently attending university, community college or technical school as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student
• Low to moderate income level
Scholarships are made possible through proceeds from the Community Action Programs’ annual Multicultural Awards Banquet. Preference is given to students actively involved in a student or community organization.
Prior scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply again and scholarships are not available to students graduating from high school this spring or summer.

City of Boulder News Briefs (for reals)

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department has begun a tree removal and replacement project on the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall.
The project will include removing declining linden trees and tree grates, realigning tree vaults, enlarging tree grates and planting new trees. This work may cause brief, minor access closures. The project is expected to be completed by April 15 (depending on weather and contactor scheduling). There are no anticipated business access impacts due to this work.

Boulder Municipal Court to close from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 8
Boulder Municipal Court will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 8, for a staff meeting.
Draft Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan 2010 Major Update available for review

The draft Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan (BVCP) 2010 Major Update is now available for review at www.bouldervalleycompplan.net; paper copies can also be obtained by calling 303-441-4293. To learn about the various feedback opportunities, visit the draft plan website. Comments received by Friday, April 29 will be reflected in future public hearing materials.
An open house will be held on Wednesday, April 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building Lobby, 1777 Broadway. Staff will be available to answer questions and take feedback.
The draft plan is currently scheduled for consideration at the following public meetings:
· City Council and Planning Board joint public hearing on Tuesday, May 24, 2011
· Boulder County Planning Commission on Wednesday, July 20 at the Boulder County Court House. 1325 Pearl St.
· Boulder County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, July 26 at the Boulder County Court House, 1325 Pearl St.

For more than a year, the city has been collecting community feedback for the BVCP 2010 Major Update. The major update process happens every five years to reflect changes in circumstances and community desires. The BVCP indicates the preferred long-term use of land in the Boulder Valley and provides guidance for zoning and development decisions. It is adopted by four bodies: The City of Boulder Planning Board, the City Council, the County Planning Commission, and the Board of County Commissioners.
