Alcorn State no match for CU women

Colorado is now 2-0 against Alcorn State and a perfect 6-0 against schools from the Southwest Athletic Conference.
With tonight’s victory over Alcorn State, Colorado extends its streak of non-conference regular season wins to 26 games.
Colorado outscored Alcorn State 27-4 off of turnovers and 39-8 on bench points.
After red shirting last year, Lauren Huggins has come out on fire.
Colorado head coach Linda Lappe wins her 66th game at Colorado, outnumbering Kathy McConnell-Miller (2005-10) for the third most wins in program history. She trails only legendary head coach Ceal Barry, who won 427 from 1983-05 and Russell “Sox” Walseth who won 77 from 1980-83.
Tonight, Junior Lexy Kresel scored nine points achieving 501 points overall in her three seasons with Colorado. She also achieved her 100th career three pointer in the second half which is 11th all-time at Colorado.
Redshirt Freshman Lauren Huggins scored 16 points in tonight’s game which is four more than she scored overall in the five games she played before her injury in the 2012-2013 season.

Woman arrested for alleged cruelty to animals

After several weeks of investigation, yesterday Boulder Police arrested Caitlin Lesko (DOB 11/11/1989) in the 1000 block of Adams Circle on a warrant issued for Cruelty to Animals-Aggravated and Cruelty to Animals-Neglect/Mistreat.
On October 29, 2013, police were dispatched to the South Boulder Animal Hospital, 4660 Table Mesa Drive, on the report from staff that a dog suffering from possible animal cruelty was brought into their facility for treatment.
Officers found a 3-month-old French bulldog with both of its hind legs broken and third degree burn’s covering 50% of his stomach. Lesko claimed the dogs legs were injured before she purchased it and admitted she burned the puppy by placing it too close to a heater to keep it warm. While she initially sought treatment for the broken legs, Lesko said she could not afford veterinary care for the burns and refused treatment. She surrendered the puppy to police on November 2, 2013.
The case number is 13-14513.

CU netster Aiello wins 10 singles matches

WOMEN’S TENNIS CONTINUES PLAY AT WESTERN MICHIGAN KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore Alex Aiello and senior Carla Manzi Tenorio each won a singles matches on Saturday on the second day of the Western Michigan Invitational featuring six other schools participating in the three-day fall event. The Western Michigan Invitational is the last fall tournament the Buffaloes will be participating in during the 2013 calendar year. “Today, we came up against some really good competition,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “We may not have fared as we would have liked, but the girls continue to fight and played hard, which is good to see in the last fall tournament of the semester.”

Aiello won her 10th singles match of the fall, a team high, defeating Katie Brozovich of Bowling Green, 6-0, 6-4. It was also Aiello’s seventh straight win. Manzi Tenorio bounced back with a pair of wins over the last two days at the WMU Invite after starting on the short-end during the month of September, where she dropped a few matches. The senior from Cali, Colombia, also defeated a Bowling Green opponent, Brittany Plaszewski in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (3). The singles field consists of 10 round robin draws of four players each, with each player playing a round of singles on each day.
The doubles field, however, will consist of a bracketed draw of 16, with two rounds of doubles over the last two days. All matches will be played at West Hills Athletic Club, a 10-court indoor facility operated by the University. The scoring at the WMU Super Challenge will be done using an experimental format. Singles matches will be played with tiebreakers at 5-5 and a third-set super tiebreaker if necessary, and doubles matches will be played to six games, also with a tiebreaker at 5-5. CU also won a doubles match on the day as junior Julyette Steur and freshman Nuria Ormeño Ruiz defeated Western Michigan’s team of Ashby/Sujashvili, 6-4. The final day of the WMU Invite will conclude Sunday with singles play.
