Columbia Cemetery meets Aaron Copland

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department and Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department will host a musical, historical hike through Columbia Cemetery, located at 9th and Pleasant streets, to learn about Boulder’s pioneers and early settlers, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Mary Reilly-McNellan, the cemetery’s curator, will introduce many colorful historical characters, and Dave Sutherland, OSMP naturalist, will share musical selections from composer Aaron Copland’s works to celebrate Boulder’s agricultural roots in the rural west. This hike is free to the public as part of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra’s ongoing “Nature and Music” collaboration with the Open Space and Mountain Parks Department.
On Saturday evening, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra will feature works by Aaron Copland: Appalachian Spring and The Tender Land. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Colorado’s Macky Auditorium.

Eben Fine Park is Open

Park removed from city manager’s closure list following park cleanup project The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department’s Eben G. Fine Park was removed from the City Manager’s Parks Closure List on Monday, Oct. 21. The park, located at 101 Arapahoe Ave., is open to the public following a two-day volunteer cleanup project at the park last weekend, in which more than 300 volunteers participated.

The city parks and facilities that remain closed under the city manager’s rule include Elks Park, Elmer’s Two-Mile Park, Evert Pierson Memorial Kids’ Fishing Pond, and Knollwood Tennis Courts. Puppies get the pool for 10 days

Dog Dayz dog swim offered at Scott Carpenter Pool Sept. 16 to Sept. 29
The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department will host Dog Dayz (dog swimming) from Sept. 16 through Sept. 29 at Scott Carpenter Pool, 1505 30th St.
Scott Carpenter Pool will close for public swimming on Sunday, Sept. 15. From Sept. 16 through Sept. 29, the pool will be open for dogs to swim and play. The cost is $5 per dog, per session, or $35 for unlimited entries for up to two dogs during the 2013 Dog Dayz season. Additional unlimited entries after two dogs will be $10 per dog.
A Dog Expo featuring dog-friendly products, vendors and organizations will also be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the pool. The pool will be open for dog swimming, and organizations from around the county will be on hand with samples, prizes and information.
Spruce Pool remains open for public (human) swimming through Labor Day, Sept. 2.
