Boulder’s newest trail gets suggested guidelines
Apr 12th
Access expected to go into effect April 24
The newly purchased portion of the Chapman Drive Trail starts at Boulder Canyon roughly at the location of the Red Lion Restaurant and proceeds south, uphill for approximately 1.4 miles.
OSBT recommended that council designate this portion of property as a Habitat Conservation Area (HCA). The guidance from OSBT included the following uses by visitors:
- Mountain bike travel up and down, on trail, from Boulder Canyon to Flagstaff Road;
- Dogs allowed, on leash and on trail, from Boulder Canyon to the junction with the Tenderfoot Trail; and
- Voice and sight control for dogs permitted from the Tenderfoot junction to Flagstaff Road.
Staff is currently in the process of working with the City Attorney’s Office to finalize these proposed uses. Once finalized, there will be a 15-day comment period for public feedback. Unless significant changes are necessary after the input process, access is expected to begin, pursuant to these guidelines, around April 24.
Please check the OSMP.org web site for updates about this process and watch for signage at the trailhead soon. For more information about these changes, contact Jean Koszalka at 303-413-7622.

CU-CSU Moving To Sunday
Apr 11th
BOULDER — The Mountain West Conference came out with its schedules for all teams this past Thursday and included was the fact that the CU-Colorado State game in Denver, previously scheduled for Saturday, August 31, is moving to the next day (Sunday, September 1). No kickoff time or television arrangements are known at this time for what has become known as the Cinch Jeans Rocky Mountain Showdown.
It will be the 85th meeting between the two state rivals (CU leads, 61-21-2); it will be the 13th meeting in Denver (CU holds a 7-5 edge in the previous dozen meetings). The first three were at the old Mile High Stadium (1998-2000), with the last 10 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
The Buffaloes and Rams have played on a Sunday one previous time, on Sept. 6, 2009 in Boulder (a 23-17 CSU win).
The Buffaloes and Rams have played on a Sunday two previous times, during the 2008 and 2009 seasons (the schools split those games).

A bueno time will be had by all
Apr 11th
Students, family and alumni at Manhattan Middle School will soon be immersed in a simulated Hispanic Marketplace. Manhattan’s Spanish language arts program will create the marketplace, called Mercado Hispano, and will give those in attendance the opportunity to taste, see and hear Hispanic culture. Mercado Hispano will be presented from 6:30-8 p.m. on Friday, April 12 in the Manhattan Middle School cafeteria.
“It’s a simulated immersion experience,” said Susan Simonds, Spanish and Dance teacher at Manhattan. “The students are very excited.”
Simonds said the students have been studying 19 of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries. Two-to-three students will be dedicated to representing each country they studied at Mercado Hispano, and they’ll offer authentic food, drinks and crafts that they have produced themselves. The cafeteria will also be decorated to simulate each country. Entertainment will include a professional Flamenco dance and music performance.
This is the fourth year for Mercado Hispano, this year’s being the biggest thus far, with 76 students participating.
Families, alumni and media are all invited to attend.
