Denver – Collision Rule Overturned Play
Apr 20th
Rockies were first on the scoreboard in Saturday night’s game vs. the Phillies, thanks to a crew chief review on a close play at the plate.
In the bottom of the third, Nolan Arenado led off the inning and extended his hitting streak to match a career-high 10 games with a single to center.
The next batter, DJ LeMahieu, singled to left and Arenado came around from first attempting to score on the play. Left fielder Domonic Brown fired to second baseman Chase Utley who made a pinpoint throw to catcher Carlos Ruiz for a bang-bang play as Arenado slid and hooked his left leg in between Ruiz’s legs as the catcher turned to make the tag.
Home plate umpire Tim Welke called Arenado out, and Arendao immediately popped up to protest. Replays available in the stadium were not conclusive on the close play, with differing angles suggesting different outcomes.

Denver Lyles vs Kendrick at Coors
Apr 19th
On Saturday, Lyles faces Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick in the second game of a three-game series at Coors Field.
Lyles sailed through the first four innings but gave up three runs and three extra-base hits in his fifth and final inning against the Padres. Although he left with a lead, the Rockies eventually lost, 5-4.
But while he was in, he forced eight groundball outs, forced two double plays and generally let the Rockies’ stellar defense do its work. Lyles (2-0, 4.32 ERA) has been solid in three starts because he has forced 29 groundball outs in 16 2/3 innings.

Avs Takes Game From Wild
Apr 18th
Erik Haula all but secured the Minnesota Wild’s Game 1 win Thursday night.
As the puck slid down the ice, the crowd was holding its breath while defenseman Erik Johnson was racing after it. Just before it crossed the goal line Johnson dove and knocked it away with 1:32 left in regulation, keeping the Colorado Avalanche within a goal.
“It’s three inches from losing the game,” center Paul Stastny said. “If that doesn’t happen, that hustle out of EJ, we’re not here in this moment.”
“This moment” was basking in the glow of another thrilling win by the won’t-quit Avalanche. Given another chance by Johnson, Stastny sent the game into overtime with 13.4 seconds left and then scored 7:27 into the extra period to give Colorado a 5-4 win and a 1-0 series lead.
Johnson’s hustle epitomized what the Avalanche has been all season – relentless and confident.
“That was certainly a key moment,” coach Patrick Roy said of Johnson. “There are a lot of key moments in the game. This one was probably one.”
It was a winning moment in a game full of them for the Avalanche. Rookie Nathan MacKinnon showed poise way beyond his years with three assists, two of which came on Stastny’s equalizer and winner.
