Boulder police: BMW driver attempts to lure female teen into car
0
Boulder police are increasing patrols after a teenage girl told investigators that an unknown man tried several times to lure her into his car. The incident occurred at 5:17 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2013 in the area of Broadway and Spruce.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late forties. The victim said he had dark skin and eyes, thick eyebrows and was wearing a dark green long-sleeve shirt. He was driving a newer model, light silver BMW 5-series four-door sedan. A composite sketch of the suspect and a photo of a similar car are attached.
The victim went into a nearby business to ask for help. The business owner saw the BMW, but was not able to see a license plate. The suspect left the area at that time and police are trying to locate the male and the associated vehicle.
Although this is the first time Boulder police have been made aware of the suspect, the victim said that yesterday’s incident was not the first time the suspect had approached her. She said that approximately four weeks earlier, a man who she believes is the same suspect tried to persuade her into his car near Viele Lake. The victim says that three weeks ago, the same suspect began honking his horn at her as he was stopped at a red light, trying to entice her into his car at Broadway and Alpine. All three times the victim says she ignored the suspect and continued walking.
Police remind community members to call 911 immediately if they see anything or anyone who seems suspicious.
Some good safety tips to remember include:
· Walk in groups and in well-lit areas.
· Make sure children know to never, ever get into a car with a stranger.
· If a stranger approaches a child, run away and yell for help.
· If a stranger tries to take a child, the child should yell, “Help! This isn’t my mom” or “This isn’t my dad,” and try to get away. Bite, kick and scratch if necessary.
· Report suspicious incidents immediately.
The case number is 13-868.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Tom Dowd at 303-441-3385. Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.

Boulder police warn parents about two incidents involving suspicious males
0
Boulder police are warning parents about a suspicious male or males who may be attempting to approach school-age children. Two separate incidents have been reported. No one was injured in either incident.
In the first incident, a 7-year-old boy and his 6-year-old sister were walking home from Whittier Elementary on Monday, November 5, when they say they were startled by a man in the area of 24th and Spruce. The boy said the man did not attempt to contact them or follow them, but he reported that he believed the man might have been carrying a gun and/or a knife. The children ran away and told their (mother) about the incident, which occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m.
The children describe the man as:
- Dark-skinned white male
- About 30 years old
- Average build
- Dark-colored baseball hat with a smiley face emblem
A second incident allegedly occurred at 3:45 p.m. in a shopping center located in the 600 block of S. Broadway. A 12-year-old boy said that a man seemed to be following him and attempting to make eye contact with him. The boy was frightened and went to a nearby store to call his mother to come pick him up. The mother reported the incident to police at 8:12 p.m. Investigators were not able to interview the 12-year-old boy last night because he was asleep by the time the incident was reported.
Police are at Southern Hills Middle School this morning to talk to the young man and gather more information about what happened.
He described the suspect to his mother, who shared the description with police:
- Dark-skinned white male
- Dirty blue jeans
- Olive-green colored hoodie
- In his 20’s
- Approximately 190 pounds
- Short dark hair
- Dark blue baseball hat
Boulder police officers are looking for the males, and ask anyone who sees a male matching the descriptions to call 911 immediately to report his location.
Extra patrol and traffic officers are in currently in place around Southern Hills Middle School, the Table Mesa Shopping Center, Whittier Elementary School and the area of the park on Folsom between Spruce and Pearl, where the first incident occurred. Detectives are contacting businesses in the shopping center on S. Broadway to try to obtain possible video of the suspect.
If video is available or if any of the children can provide enough information to complete a composite sketch, that information will immediately be made available to the public.
Police advise anyone who sees anything suspicious to report the activity immediately to police. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Detective Kristin Weisbach at 303-441-4474.

Boulder homeowner shoots female intruder in the middle of night
0Boulder police investigating early-morning shooting of intruder
Police in Boulder were called to a home in the 400 block of College Ave. at 3:26 a.m. after a resident reported that he had shot an intruder.
The male and female homeowners (husband and wife) had been sleeping in their bedroom when they were awakened by a noise, which they initially thought may have been a raccoon outside their exterior bedroom door. The screen door was closed but unlocked.
When the female homeowner realized that the noise was not a raccoon, but someone who had opened the door and entered the bedroom, both she and her husband shouted for the intruder to get out. According to the homeowners, they continued to shout to warn the intruder to leave. The male homeowner shouted that he had a gun and would use it if the intruder did not leave immediately. The intruder continued walking through the bedroom, toward the couple. The couple could see a light that the intruder was carrying as the intruder continued toward the bed.
The husband and wife told police the intruder would not acknowledge their demands to leave. At that point, the husband fired one shot toward the light, and heard what sounded like something falling onto floor. When the husband turned on the light, they saw an unknown female intruder on the floor with a gunshot wound to her hip. The couple called 911.
The female intruder was taken to the hospital for treatment. Her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Police are continuing to investigate this case and are working in partnership with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office. At this time, police are not releasing the names of the homeowners or the female intruder, because the case remains open. No further information will be released at this time.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 28, Boulder police responded to a 911 call that was traced to the 3100 block of Pearl Street. The caller told dispatch that he had been stabbed and the suspect was still on scene. Officers arrived on scene to find two stabbing victims in what appeared to be an abandoned shed being used as shelter. Both victims were transported to Boulder Community Hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. At approximately 9:45 a.m., police learned that this victim had died in surgery. The second victim is still being treated at BCH. The suspect was arrested on-scene and is currently at the Boulder County Jail.
Both of the victims and the suspect are homeless. Both victims are white males. One is in his late 20s. The homicide victim has not yet been identified. The suspect has been identified as Charles Waters, date of birth 9/14/55. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
“The homeless often face dangers most of us do not have to worry about, and this is just another tragic example,” said Police Chief Mark Beckner. “There is no tolerance in our community for this sort of senseless violence. We are doing everything we can to build a solid case for prosecution.”

Feed bears and they will eat
0Residents encouraged to secure trash and food sources to protect bears
Gris getting ready to eat Prom Queen.
The City of Boulder reminds residents that this is the time of year when bears are foraging for food, in preparation for their winter hibernation. It is important that residents take measures to deter bears by securing any potential food sources on their properties.
Bear-proofing food items and trash is the best way for residents to minimize the chances that bears will show interest in their property. Common bear attractants include garbage, compost, bird feeders, food from outdoor grills, pet food left outside and fruit from trees. The city recommends that residents store garbage and compost bins in a garage or shed until the morning of collection, or keep their waste in a bear-resistant trash container. Residents within the city limits of Boulder can contact Western Disposal at 303-444-2037 to purchase bear-resistant trash containers.
Really stupid idea
Bears that learn that people are a source of food are sometimes killed to keep the public safe. Over the past six years, five bears have been killed in the city because of nuisance behavior or a threat to public safety. Please do your part to ensure that bears are not unnecessarily attracted to your property.
If there is a bear in your backyard, the following tips are recommended:
Keep your distance. Back away slowly from the bear, ensuring it has a clear escape path;
Never run. Running may cause a bear to chase you;
Never approach a bear, or get in between a cub and its mother;
Never provide food to a bear. This teaches it to approach people for food;
Do not let the bear become comfortable around your home; and
Once you are safely inside, do your best to scare the bear away. Yell, clap your hands and make other loud noises to encourgage the bear to leave.
Thanks for the twinky, now I am going to eat you.
If the bear is threatening human safety, pets or destroying property, call the police at 911. Report past bear sightings and encounters at 303-441-3004.
The city is in the final stages of developing the Black Bear and Mountain Lion component of the Urban Wildlife Management Plan (UWMP) and has prepared a draft version for public input. To view the draft plan and submit feedback, visit www.boulderwildlifeplan.net. Feedback provided prior to Sept. 28 will be incorporated into the Oct. 18 memo for City Council’s consideration.

Boulder University of Colorado student dies of possible alcohol overdose
0CU-BOULDER CONFIRMS OFF-CAMPUS DEATH OF 21-YEAR-OLD STUDENT MICHAEL A. HOFFMAN
The University of Colorado Boulder today confirmed the recent death of CU-Boulder student Michael Hoffman, 21, on Aug. 30.
Hoffman was found unconscious at an off-campus apartment building on the Hill in Boulder in the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 26.
Hoffman and a friend were drinking and socializing on the Hill in the early hours of Aug. 26, but later became separated. He was found unconscious on a doorstep of an apartment building by a resident of the building who called 911. Paramedics responded, Hoffman was taken to the hospital and he never regained consciousness.
Hoffman was an open-option Arts and Sciences major from New Jersey.
CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano said of Hoffman’s passing, “We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our students, Michael Hoffman, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to Michael’s family and friends.
“The loss of any of our students is a blow to our community and a harsh limit placed on the future of our world. I believe this is a challenge to us to continue our efforts in alcohol and drug education, as well as a strong incentive to strengthen our partnerships with the city of Boulder and other stakeholders to reduce the often tragic role that alcohol and drug abuse play in our state and community.”
Alcohol is a dangerous drug which can produce overdose and death.
Counseling resources are available to Michael Hoffman’s friends and classmates, or to others in the community affected by his passing, through CU’s Office of Victim Assistance at http://cuvictimassistance.com/ or 303-492-8855, or the office of Counseling and Psychological Services at https://counseling.colorado.edu/ or 303-492-6766. Boulder Fire Department and the University of Colorado hold fire training for CU resident advisors
0On Thursday, Aug. 11, the Boulder Fire Department will teach 213 resident advisors and other staff from the University of Colorado Boulder about fire safety. The goal of the training is for Resident Advising staff to learn how to teach freshmen students about fire safety and how to lead effectively during emergencies.
The training includes:
· Smoke evacuation from a residence hall using non-toxic theatrical smoke
· Fire extinguisher skills practice on live fire
· Classroom activities & case studies using fire-damaged materials from actual fires involving CU-Boulder students
· Panel discussions with CU police and Boulder Fire Rescue & residence hall directors on “What to Do While You Are Waiting for Emergency Services to Arrive”
The student-based program is in its tenth year, and has become a national model for fire safety training on college campuses around the country.
“It’s an honor for CU-Boulder to partner with the Boulder Fire Department in the development of a national fire safety model for college students,” said Deb Coffin, interim vice chancellor for student affairs. “The program is grounded in fire safety practices and student feedback, and we’re confident it’s making a difference in the safety and health of our students.”
Training sessions start at 8:00 a.m. and go through noon on Thursday on the CU campus, Farrand and Libby residence halls.
For fun, RAs and students will also have the chance to test their skills with fire hoses, shooting Frisbees with water from a fire engine adjacent to Farrand Field.
Some of the tips which will be provided during the training include:
· Always evacuate when a fire alarm sounds.
· Find the nearest exit, which may not be the most familiar route.
· Use the stairs – not elevators – when evacuating. Elevators can trap you between floors or open onto a fire floor.
· If you are trapped and can’t evacuate, call 911.
· Make sure the smoke alarms in your rooms have fresh batteries.
· Take responsibility for your own safety.

US under attack! Al Qaeda begins Holiday bombing campaign to USA #boulder
0USA misses bullet!!
Sophisticated bomb techniques show Engineering types seem to be involved
Al Qaeda has sent multiple bombs on passenger planes from Yemen. Some were shipped to Chicago synagogs but were interdicted by the FBI. More importantly the White House says “there may still be bombs out there.” US stops shipments from Yemen.
Al Qaeda picked Chicago because president Obama is from there. Osama bin Laden appears to be behind this round of attacks as america’s election season is under way. It also marks the beginning of Al Qaeda Holiday terror campaign. This sophisticated bomb designer has been identyfied and is the same as last Xmas underwear bomber.
This Halloween event shows once again that the USA is still under attack and at war with radical Muslim Islamics from the middle east. These were religeous in nature since it is aimed at Jews and Christians. Iraqi security forces stormed a Catholic church Sunday where gunmen suspected of having ties to al Qaeda were holding worshippers hostages. The US usually down plays the religeous connect.
The Obama administration has stepped up special forces operations consistent with Bush Doctine. Radical Islamic cells exist in over 125 countries where Muslim wars continue according to Boulder’s Soldier of Fortune magazine which recruites soldiers for private armies.
Though the US mainland misssed the bullet on Halloween day it is clear the US was attacked and the war goes on. boulder leftists often blame the USA for Muslim attacks on our homeland.
Just yesterday the Colorado Democrat party has asked for a Grand jury Investigation into the causes of 911. Promoted by 911 conspirasistsl which believe president GW Bush and Osama bin Ladin organized the bombings of the World trade centers in New York. This theory is considered in extremely bad taste by the Obama administration.

Boulder Channel 1 Jumps gun on reporting deaths in Four Mile Fire
4We jumped the gun on reporting deaths in the Four Mile Canyon Fire. Two sources told us there were deaths. We don’t reveal sources in order to keep an open line in developing stories.
In the propane tank car story we stand by that.
In the 911 failure story we stand by that too.
In the social media twitter internet story that is also acurate. We in fact were asked again by the city PIO to help get the word out on evacuation preparations.
In the 200 houses burned story we stand by that. It turned out 165 plus 34 damaged? And evacuees still insist that number is low. But our sources gave us those numbers early.
In the story reporting possible deaths, we jumped the gun We know that is an active investigation by Officials and as recently as today they confirmed that there are still unaccounted people that they have not reported to the press on. see todays interviews below.
We have a policy of aggressively pursuing story’s and we will run with stories that we feel are accurate and sourced by hi-level officials when larger non New media organizations won’t go with. They wait for an official release of information. We don’t because we may wait for ever or never. Other news agencies have fed us sources on these stories in order to break the story and make officials respond. We will take it and confirm. Is it risky ? Yep. Sometimes we get it wrong. Often we are right but way in advance of official response. In that sense we do our own investigations
Below is todays conversations of missing people still not publicly acknowledged, but are under investigation:
September 9 9:15 That is a question and determination being made by USFA and Boulder Sheriff’s ”There are still 20 people missing” Sherriff said. ” and we cannot connect all of the burned out cars to people yet.” ” There maybe missing people that we don’t know are missing” There could be hikers and bikers missing that we have know idea were up there on Holiday weekend. We could be finding bodies six months from now we just don’t know” ” we have not been in all of the structures to see whats there. There are still areas that are very dangerous” said Rick Braugh PIO commander to boulder Channel 1 news today. There is so much that we have not processed through, we don’t even know what we have yet”
But USFS forest service source tells us ” We do have cars that look like they were returning or trying to evacuate that are incinerated and we have not attached people to these cars” Rick Braugh said, “there are so many cars…. they are all over the place” USFS spokesperson said ” It looks Grim from the positioning of the cars, but how will we ever know? The heat was 5000 degrees. we cannot go on the assumption that know one was in these vehicles. We have to find the people and htis part looks Grim” said USAF spokesperson.
According to Braugh ” “the two to 5 people we assumed were incinerated have now been found , but that does not mean there are not more or that there are fatalities. We are still looking for 20 people right now and that number can go up or down”" How will we ever do forensics ? Where would we look. Everything is dust.”

The Fourmile Canyon wildfire has grown to at least 7,100 acres in size and forced the mandatory evacuation of more than 3,000 residents living in the steep, rugged and heavily forested foothills west of the City of Boulder. Teams are on site to catalog burned structures and to investigate the fire’s cause and origin.
More than 200 firefighters, from at least 35 local, regional and national agencies are working to contain the active fire. Eight air tankers and three helicopters joined the effort. Due to a thick inversion layer limiting visibility, air tankers were unable take off Tuesday morning, but dropped more than 90,000 gallons of fire retardant later in the day.
Communities east of the Peak-to-Peak Highway, south of Lefthand Canyon Drive, west of Olde Stage Road and north of Boulder Canyon Drive (Colo. Highway 119) will remain evacuated until further notice. Residents will be informed when any evacuations have been lifted.
The emergency shelter at the Coors Events Center located on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder is closed. UPDATE: Media and Public Meeting set for 9am Justice 6th & Cyn #boulderfire, OFFICIALS WITH HOLD iNFORMATION
0The Four Mile fire started with a vehicle propane crash with ignited a forest fire which burned so quickly in the canyons along Boulder’s foothills, that the true nature of the devastation has been withheld by county officials.
Only monitoring Fire team leader channel 7 and other fire radios gave an account of what was happening in the mountains above Boulder. Houses were being lost from the very beginning of the fire though county officiasl refused to admit it. There was near panic on the fire line as firefighters and residents were being driven blindly out of the mountains. People were missing and some residents refused to leave their homes. There where abouts are still unaccounted for.
The failure and mis communication of evacuation routes caused MT residents to become trapped. 911 failure left the entire town of Gold Hill still occupied after 6 hours of inferno. Their plight is still unknown.
Public information officials from the county and city have been less than helpful and have gone short of out and out lying. communications to the public and press were terrible. They held a news and public information blackout on the serious nature of this fire and were less than helpful, curt and irresponsible. Consequently they put peoples live in Danger.

Fire status update set for 9 a.m. Tuesday at Justice Center
Boulder County officials will be on hand to update the public and media on the status of the Fourmile Canyon Fire at a briefing scheduled for 9 a.m. MST Tuesday at the Boulder County Justice Center located at 6th Street and Canyon Boulevard in Boulder. So far, no injuries as a result of the fire have been reported.
Up-to-date information about the size of the fire, its movement overnight, personnel and equipment involved in fighting the fire, evacuation status and tactical plans for the day will be discussed at the briefing, among other information.
The Fourmile Canyon Fire is at least 3,500 acres in size and forced the mandatory evacuation of about 3,000 residents living in the steep, rugged and heavily forested foothills west of the City of Boulder. There have been no evacuations within the city limits of Boulder. The evacuation area includes communities east of the Peak-to-Peak Highway, south of Lefthand Canyon Drive and north of Boulder Canyon Drive (Colo. Highway 119). Twelve people spent Monday night in the Coors Events Center located on the University of Colorado, Boulder campus. All other emergency shelters were closed because evacuated residents had made arrangements to stay with friends or family in the area, according to Red Cross officials.
Over 100 firefighters manning 35 engines from 30 local agencies worked to contain the fast-moving, wind-blown fire on Monday. Three aircraft also joined the fight flying 18 sorties and dropping 40,000 gallons of fire retardant on the fire. Additional aircraft are expected to join the effort on Tuesday.
Boulder Canyon Drive reopened to traffic Monday evening, however, Fourmile Canyon Drive and Sugarloaf Road remain closed. Additionally, Lefthand Canyon Drive and James Canyon Drive are open from U.S. Highway 36 to Jamestown. Lefthand Canyon Drive is closed between Lee Hill Drive and Lick Skillet Road.
The Boulder Valley School District also announced that all mountain schools will be closed Tuesday.
An incident call center has been established to assist city and county residents affected by the wildfire. Residents are asked to contact the call center at 303-413-7737 instead of calling 911 unless there is an emergency to report.
Air tankers refused to take tot he air while home burned in the Mountains. Could they have flown in the wind??

Whose side is God on? Media Matters: The Mosque, Vatican, conservatives wacko GB
0| Sunday Aug 15 2010Back in April, Glenn Beck informed his radio listeners that during his trip to the Vatican, an “individual” there told him that “what you’re doing is wildly important” in the upcoming struggle against forces of “great darkness.”
Earlier the same week, Beck explained that he was promoting “the plan that [God] would have me articulate, I think, to you,” against “darkness.” While notable on their own merits, Beck’s comments were especially striking because they marked what was (at the time) the culmination of Beck’s regular portrayal of himself as fighting on behalf of “good” against the forces of “evil” and “darkness.” Since then, Beck has made it abundantly clear that he does not use this sort of language metaphorically — he quite literally believes he is fighting on the side of God against Satan. In the months since his trip to the Vatican, Beck has ramped up the frequency and intensity with which he frames the current political debate in our country in biblical, and sometimes apocalyptic, terms. For example, in recent months, Beck has:
This brings us to Beck’s upcoming “Restoring Honor” rally, which is slated to take place in two weeks. Beck has repeatedly described the rally as historic and modestly declared that it “will be remembered in American history as the turning point.” As he has explained it, Beck originally wanted to schedule the rally for September 12, but didn’t want people to “work on the Sabbath,” so he rescheduled it for August 28. When he later discovered that this date marked the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, rather than chalking it up to coincidence, Beck claimed that it was “divine providence.” Just think about that for a second — Beck is so convinced he is working on behalf of the forces of “good” that he believes God made sure the date of his self-aggrandizement festival coincided with the anniversary of a landmark speech by a civil rights icon. Beck’s messianic religiosity took the next logical step this week, when he announced a new event scheduled on the eve of the 8-28 rally. Employing his characteristic humility, the event will be titled “Glenn Beck’s Divine Destiny” and will feature “nationally-known figures from all faiths.” Beck describes the evening as an “eye-opening” event “that will help heal your soul.” While Beck regularly garners plenty of attention, his increasingly intense religiosity has flown mostly under the radar. If we’re to take him at his word, then he sincerely believes that he is fighting on behalf of God against the forces of Satan — or as Beck calls them, “progressives.” If that isn’t the case, then he’s cynically using biblical fearmongering in order to continue to grow his brand and score political points. I’m not sure which is worse. Either way, it’s deserving of more attention. Bottom of the anti-mosque barrelIf conservatives had a reasonable case against the supposed “Ground Zero mosque,” they wouldn’t need to rely on blatant falsehoods to make their arguments. However, when you are working backward from the thesis “Muslims are all terrorists and terrorist sympathizers,” then you are bound to make some leaps of logic in support of your “point.” This week, conservative media figures focused much of their ire on Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s upcoming State Department trip to the Middle East to “discuss Muslim life in America and religious tolerance.” Several of the usual suspects complained that Rauf was going on a “taxpayer-funded fundraising jaunt” to finance his proposed Islamic cultural center. As we noted, the State Department has made explicit that fundraising of any kind is prohibited during the trip. Perhaps more importantly, conservatives’ attacks on Rauf’s trip amount to an accidental indictment of a program the Bush administration felt was useful in fighting terror. Rauf began participating in the outreach program during the Bush administration. Of course, people like unhinged right-wing blogger Pam Geller ignored such inconvenient facts when they were calling the trip “disturbing.” Sean Hannity repeatedly took Rauf’s writings out of context to paint him as “anything but moderate” and falsely claimed that Rauf wants to “shred our Constitution” and replace it with Sharia law. Glenn Beck joined Hannity in smearing Rauf by saying that Rauf “employs” an imam who blamed “the Jews” for 9-11. He doesn’t. But the anti-mosque discourse bottomed out (hopefully), as it often does, with our friends at NewsBusters. This week, Mark Finkelstein uncovered a “chilling” fact about the Islamic community center as he discussed Geller’s anti-mosque ads on New York buses — which tastelessly depict the image of a plane hitting the World Trade Center on 9-11, falsely suggest that the mosque is opening on September 11, 2011, and add an imaginary star and crescent to the artist’s rendering of the building. I’ll let him explain his discovery:
Here’s the “chilling” artist’s rendering that Finkelstein linked to:
I can think of no better encapsulation of both the ineptitude of NewsBusters and the ongoing desperation of conservative media figures struggling to find a not-overtly bigoted reason to oppose the Islamic center than parsing the “certain implicit triumphalism involved” in shaping it like a building.
