Boulder police look for suspect, possible witness, in 2011 sex assault

Boulder police continue to investigate an alleged sex assault that took place on July 16, 2011, around 4:30 a.m. in the area of 28th and Baseline.

 

The victim was 18 years old at the time of the attack, and she was walking alone along the 28th St. frontage road. She told police she was grabbed from behind and then sexually assaulted. Her arm, which was previously broken, was broken again during the assault.

 

Police are looking for the suspect, who is a light-skinned black male with green eyes and glasses. He is described as being between 18 and 22 years old, 6’0” tall with a medium build. He wore his hair in a 3-inch long light brown afro, and may have had a pick in his hair. At the time of the assault, he wore a purple shirt with neon green lettering, and khaki pants.

 

Police are also looking for a possible witness to the assault. According to the victim, a blonde, white male in his 20’s may have been walking by at the time of the attack, and may have seen or heard the incident. He may not have realized that a sexual assault was taking place.

 

Police would like to talk to this potential witness, and are asking him to come forward. Police are also continuing to try to identify the suspect.

 

The case number is 11-8876.

Police seek suspects in two robberies, one theft

 

Police in Boulder are investigating two robberies and a theft that occurred recently and are attempting to locate the suspects who are involved.  Police do not believe the cases are related.

 

Case # 12-2371

A theft took place on Feb. 19 at approximately 12:30 a.m. The male victim was with friends at a restaurant in the 1300 block of Broadway and had gone outside for a few minutes. The victim told police that two men approached him and demanded his wallet. The victim complied.

 

One suspect is described as being 6’1” to 6’2” tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has brown hair and an earring in one ear. At the time of the theft, he was wearing a dark shirt and jeans. The other male suspect had brown hair and was of average build. There is no clothing description for the second suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Tom Dowd at 303-441-3385. No one was injured in this incident.

 

Case # 12-2345

Also on Feb. 19, a male victim was robbed in the north alley of the 2100 block of Goss Circle at 10:01 a.m. The victim told investigators that he was heading to his parked car when a male suspect approached him and demanded his cell phone. The victim laughed at the suspect, and the suspect cut the victim’s face with a knife. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury.

 

The suspect in this theft is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s, about 5’8” tall and “skinny,” probably weighing less than 125 pounds. He had short, curly hair and light brown eyes. The suspect was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes. A black and white bandana covered most of his face. Detective Jeremy Frenzen is the lead investigator. Case # 12-2437

Another robbery took place at Pleasures, located at 2801 Iris, on Feb. 21. A clerk at the store says a male suspect approached him at about 8:10 p.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk gave the suspect cash and the suspect fled on foot. This suspect is described as a possibly Hispanic male in his mid-20s, about 5’9” – 5’10”, with an “average” build. He was wearing a light gray hoodie, dark gray sweatpants and black tennis shoes, with a black beanie-type cap, and a blue and white bandana covering most of his face. He was also wearing dark gloves. Robbery suspect displays handgun, demands cash from convenience store. Few handguns have been displayed in the spate of recent robberies.

 

Police in Boulder are investigating an Aggravated Robbery and Felony Menacing that occurred at the PDQ convenience store, located at 5200 Manhattan Circle, on Saturday, Feb. 4, around 12:36 a.m.

 

The clerk told police that the suspect entered the store wearing a jacket and a ski mask. He displayed a handgun and ordered two male customers who were in the store at the time to lie down on the floor. They complied. The suspect then demanded cash from the clerk. He cooperated and gave the suspect cash and cigarettes. The suspect left the store on foot, and police believe he left the area in a vehicle.

 

The suspect is described as follows:

 

  • White male
  • 5’8“ to 6’0” tall
  • About 200 pounds
  • Wearing a black ski mask
  • Wearing a gray hoodie with the hood pulled up, blue jeans and gloves

Boulder Armed robbery suspect still at large

Boulder police continue to search for an armed robbery suspect who threatened three women with a gun and then stole their purses.

Extra police patrols are monitoring the Boulder Creek area and will continue to do so.

On Monday afternoon, just before 4:00 p.m., a Hispanic male approached three women who were enjoying Boulder Creek near the area of 5th and Canyon. He displayed a gun and told the three to walk into the water so he could separate them from their purses, which they had placed on the bank. The women complied and the suspect fled on a bicycle with all three purses. No one was hurt.

The victims, plus several witnesses, heard a sound that they believed was a shot fired from a gun as the suspect rode away on his bike. Detectives recovered a projectile from a handgun in the area of the robbery. The suspect was last seen heading east on the Boulder Creek path, near the Criminal Justice Center.

Detectives are working on obtaining a sketch. The suspect is described as a:

Hispanic male
Early-to-mid twenties
5’8” – 5’10” tall
160 pounds with a stocky build
Wearing a grayish-blue polo shirt & jeans
Carrying a black backpack
Short dark hair

Boulder police are working with investigators from the University of Colorado Police Department, because Monday’s armed robbery is similar to a separate armed robbery that occurred on the campus on August 11.

Boulder police believe there may be a witness to the sexual assault of an 18-year-old female that occurred around 4:30 Saturday morning.

The victim was walking alone along the 28th Street Frontage Road, north of Baseline, when she was allegedly grabbed from behind and then sexually assaulted. The victim believes a male walking by might have heard or seen part of the incident.

The witness is described as a blonde, white male in his 20’s. He was wearing a dark-colored T-shirt with some type of white graphics, and gray sweatpants. He made a comment as he passed by. Police believe the witness may not have known or understood that a sexual assault was taking place.

Detectives would like to talk to this witness, and are asking him to come forward.

Police release sketch of early-morning sex assault suspect

Police in Boulder are asking the public for help in identifying the suspect allegedly involved in an early-morning sex assault near the area of 28th and Baseline Saturday morning.

A sketch of the suspect is attached. The victim in the attack describes the suspect as a light-skinned black male with glasses and green eyes. He is about 6’0” tall with a medium build. He has a three-inch long light brown afro, and may have been wearing a pick in his hair. At the time of the assault he was wearing a purple shirt with neon-green lettering, along with khaki pants.

The victim is an 18-year-old resident of Boulder. She was walking alone to a fast-food restaurant along the 28th Street frontage road at about 4:30 Saturday morning. She heard footsteps and was grabbed from behind, and then was sexually assaulted. The victim’s arm had been broken several weeks ago, and it was broken again during the assault.

After the assault, the victim went to a nearby business to ask for help and call police. She was treated at a hospital, and has been released.

Police remind residents to take safety precautions if they are out late at night:

  1. Never walk alone. Walk in pairs or groups, especially during late-night or early-morning hours.
  2. Stay in well-lit areas and avoid alleys or other areas which are poorly lit.
  3. Carry a cell phone, and make sure it’s easily accessible.
  4. Report crimes immediately and call police if you see anything that looks suspicious.

Boulder police identify bank robbery suspect

Latiolais Michael Shaw : Boulder PD wants to slap the cuffs on you.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 48-year-old Michael Shawn Latiolais (DOB 09/27/62) in connection with the armed robberies of the Boulder Valley Credit Union and a Circle K convenience store. He is wanted on two felony charges of Aggravated Robbery.

Witnesses identified Latiolais as the suspect in both robberies. He is a white male, 165 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes. Police believe he may be driving a 1995 silver Ford Ranger pickup truck, with Colorado license plate 134-GRV.

The Circle K robbery took place on Feb. 28 around 10:45 p.m. at the store located at 3185 28th St. in Boulder. The Boulder Valley Credit Union (located at 2667 Broadway) was robbed the next morning, March 1 at 9:45 a.m. In both robberies, the suspect produced a note demanding cash and claiming to have a gun, though no witnesses ever saw a weapon. No one was hurt in either robbery.

An armed robbery that took place at a Wells Fargo branch on Canyon Boulevard on Feb. 28 is believed to be unrelated to the robberies at the Circle K and the Boulder Valley Credit Union. Boulder police arrested 23-year-old William Anthony Chren III (DOB 08/26/87) in connection with that case.

Boulder detectives have been working with the FBI and other local agencies on all of these cases.

Boulder police investigate three armed robberies in 24 hours

Boulder police are looking for the suspect or suspects involved in three armed robberies over the past 24 hours and are considering the possibility that all three crimes are connected. In each robbery, the suspect was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.BVCU Case 2649.jpg

Two robberies took place the night of Monday, Feb. 28. One was at a branch of Wells Fargo bank on Canyon Boulevard, and the other happened at a Circle K convenience store on 28th Street. This morning, Tuesday, March 1, a man who claimed to have a weapon robbed the Boulder Valley Credit Union on Broadway.

Last night’s Circle K robbery happened at 10:45 p.m. at the store located at 3185 28th St.. The suspect walked to the counter and initially asked for a package of cigarettes, then showed the clerk a note demanding all the cash in the register. TheCircle K2 case 2636.jpg note indicated that the suspect had a gun, although the clerk told police he never saw a weapon. No one was hurt, and the suspect left quickly with an undisclosed amount of cash. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office assisted with a K-9 unit to try to locate the suspect.

At 9:45 a.m. today, a man claiming to have a gun robbed the Boulder Valley Credit Union at 2667 Broadway. Tellers told police that the man walked in, produced a note demanding money and claimed to have a gun. No one saw any weapon. There were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, although several bank employees were inside. No one was hurt.

Credit union employees describe the suspect as a 40- to 50-year-old white male, 6 feet tall, with pockmarks and acne scarring on his face. He was wearing a dark jacket and tan pants, a brown knit cap with tassels and dark sunglasses.

Circle K1 case 2636.jpg The clerk at Circle K also described the suspect as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, about 6 feet tall and very thin. He wore a brown baseball cap and had straight brown hair. His face was pockmarked and he had prominent cheekbones.

Boulder police detectives have notified the FBI and the two agencies are working together.

Boulder Police looking for bank robbery suspect

Boulder police are searching for a man who robbed the Wells Fargo bank at 1690 Canyon Avenue early this evening.

It happened at 5:26 p.m.  Witnesses told police the man walked into the lobby of the bank, approached one of the tellers and handed the teller a note demanding money. He claimed to have a gun, though no weapon was seen. The teller complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was last seen running southbound away from the bank.

A number of bank employees and customers were inside the bank at the time. No one was hurt.

Photos of the suspect are attached. Police are looking for an 18-to-22 year-old-man who is described as 6’3”, very thin, with a pockmarked face and brown hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and a ski jacket with a white shirt underneath.
