Verlo’s New Mattress factory in Longmont
May 5th
We visit with Dick Summerfield, the owner of Verlo Mattress Factory in Boulder and his new factory location in Longmont which was recently moved from Main Street to Weaver Park Rd. We learn more about Verlo and their locally made and award winning beds. We also get to know how how Dick and his family started the company and the history of the Boulder and Longmont stores. Then we look inside the beds and what makes them so comfortable and healthy for your sleeping needs, and we learn about the new Gel Foam beds and what makes them different than traditional foam beds.
Boulder County’s moratorium on oil and gas drilling permits is scheduled to expire on June 10
May 4th

TAKE ACTION: Contact the County Commissioners @ commissioners@bouldercounty.org to ask for a multi-year moratorium on fracking until we have results of neutral health impact research such as the National Science Foundation study due in 2018. Before issuing any oil and gas drilling permits, we need to first know the public safety impacts of hydraulic fracturing.
A multi-year moratorium based on the need for health impact studies on fracking would allow time for the results of medical and scientific studies now in the works to be finalized, including a 5-year $12 million study funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) being coordinated by the University of Colorado at Boulder, an EPA study on “Potential Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing on Drinking Water Resources,” and a multi-year study by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment with Colorado State University.

CU hammer thrower Emily Hunsucker–a woman you don’t want to piss off
May 3rd
University of Colorado junior Emily Hunsucker just keeps getting better and better as she broke her CU record in the hammer throw for the third time this season at the Cowpoke Open on Friday afternoon.
Hunsucker launched a toss of 203-9 in her first throw to demolish her previous mark of 200-3 by more than three feet. This was her sixth win of the season. Hunsucker’s throw was over 16 feet further than Colorado State’s Jenna Sliwinski’s throw of 187-1. Hunsucker’s series was so good, that despite two fouls, any one of her four fair throws would have won the meet (203-9, 203-3, F, 193-0, F, 193-2).
The throw improves her Pac-12 ranking from seventh to fifth and she now ranks 16th on the national list. Hunsucker is also 11th in the west region rankings.
On the men’s side, Cameron Hutchins threw his season-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 178-5, passing his mark of 175-6, to place sixth. Brady Rutt recorded a personal-best and took ninth with a throw of 171-3.
