City hosts Dec. 1 meeting to discuss pesticide assessment project

Earlier this year, in response to concerns about the process for updating the city’s Approved Pesticide List, the city decided to postpone any changes to the list in order to allow time to review and evaluate the current Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Since then, the city has hired a team of consultants including the IPM Institute of North America, the Pesticide Research Institute and Osborne Organics to review the city’s current practices and make recommendations for updating the city’s IPM program.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting and provide feedback. Comments are also welcome on the IPM website at www.bouldercolorado.gov under “Issues / Projects.”
Oprah Winfrey Show to celebrate Boulder volunteer

Hause has been collecting, washing, sorting and distributing warm used coats and jackets through the Deacon’s Closet, an affiliate of First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, for 22 years.
“It is always rewarding when we receive a thank you from someone who we helped in a time of need,” Hause said. “Here at the Deacon’s Closet, we try to help everyone who needs assistance.”
In response to her invitation to attend the Oprah Winfrey Show, Hause said, “It is an honor to be recognized nationally. I hope this will let more people in Boulder know about the work we do and increase our donations. The need is growing this year, and donations are down.”
Hause was nominated by Magali Fredrick, the Family Resource School Coordinator at Creekside Elementary School.
“A lot of people play a part in helping the families we serve,” said Fredrick. “I am so happy one of these outstanding people is being appreciated by Oprah for her work.”
The Family Resource Schools Program is a joint partnership between the City of Boulder and the Boulder Valley School District to support families’ capacity to raise healthy, well-functioning and successful elementary-aged children. The program provides a broad array of prevention and early intervention services and emphasizes outreach to traditionally underserved populations to increase access to basic services and involvement in school.

Police Investigate Bank Robbery, arrest suspect

On Thursday, November 17, 2010, at 1:45 p.m., Boulder Police responded to a robbery at the Chase Bank in the 2500 block of Arapahoe. A male suspect walked into the bank, approached the teller and handed the teller a note. The teller quizzically asked the male a brief question. The male then demanded money. The teller fled towards the back of the bank. As the teller fled to the rear of the business, the suspect turned and exited the bank. The male was last seen walking away in a southwestern direction.
The suspect was described as a white male, 28 – 30 years of age, approximately 5’10” to 6” tall, with round facial features. He was last seen wearing a black knit watch cap with a white “NY” symbol, a gray winter coat with reflective striping, baggy jeans and white tennis shoes.
After the incident, Officer Keith Steinman recognized the male from surveillance photographs. The suspect was subsequently identified as Michael Thomas Segrue with a DOB of 07/25/1981. Police executed a search and an arrest warrant at 8:15 p.m. for Segrue at an apartment located at1444 Folsom. Segrue was arrested without incident.
The case number for this incident is 10-14228.
