City of Boulder releases coyote management plan for Boulder Creek Path conflict area

The City of Boulder has finalized and is releasing a proactive coyote management plan for addressing the reported coyote-human interactions in the area of Boulder Creek Path in central Boulder. The plan is available on www.boulderwildlifeplan.net.
The coyote wildlife plan is site specific to a focused area where several conflicts have been recently reported. It includes proactive hazing of coyotes by city staff and volunteers to attempt to retrain coyotes to be wary of humans. Lethal control of coyotes remains an option if aggressive incidents occur and responsible coyotes can be reasonably identified. Hazing activity will begin tomorrow.
People who travel the Boulder Creek Path should be aware of the increased coyote activity, as well as the hazing efforts the city will be conducting. Individuals should make every effort to maintain a good distance from coyotes. In cases where a coyote approaches human, people are advised to make themselves look bigger, make noise and wave their arms to scare the coyote away. Back away slowly. Turning away or running from the coyote could prompt the animal to become even more aggressive.
People who come in contact with an aggressive coyote are encouraged to call 303-441-3333 as promptly as possible to report the incident.

Boulder police: Red light camera snags suspect in truck theft

Suspect in stolen vehicle case photographed by photo red light
A suspect who police believe stole a work truck from a local company was photographed by a photo red light camera in Boulder. Police are releasing the photo and asking anyone who recognizes the man to contact investigators.
The stolen truck has been recovered in Erie, CO. It is a 2007 Ford pick-up, and belongs to a company called Lighthouse Solar.

The truck had been parked at the Lighthouse Solar parking lot at the end of the work day on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. It was reported missing on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 when employees arrived at work.
Police need help from the public to identify the suspect, seen in the attached photo which was taken by a photo red light unit at 28th and Arapahoe.
The case number is 12-16695.

Boulder Planning and Development office to be more user friendly

City announces new hours and appointment scheduling at the Planning & Development Services Center
In response to customer feedback, the City of Boulder’s Planning & Development Services Center will be testing extended business hours and advance appointment scheduling in 2013. The services center, which is currently closed for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. daily, will be open during the lunch hour beginning Monday, Jan. 7. The services center will be continuously open and available to customers from:

The services center, which is currently closed for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. daily, will be open during the lunch hour beginning Monday, Jan. 7. The services center will be continuously open and available to customers from:
· 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and
· 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Anyone who enters the services center before 4 p.m. will be served. The new operating hours are based on the schedules of the industries served and are consistent with those of neighboring communities. City staff will be evaluating the success of the changes on an ongoing basis and will announce any proposed revisions as necessary.
In addition to the new hours, customers that are working through the Land Use Review (LUR) and Technical Document (TEC) processes will be able to schedule an appointment with a Project Specialist ahead of time by contacting Karlin Goggin at 303-441-4053 or goggink@bouldercolorado.gov.
“The services center is committed to providing excellent customer service and continuous improvements,” said Administrative Services Manager Aimee Kane. “We are excited to offer our customers expanded business hours and services to better accommodate their needs and schedules.”
Planning & Development Services coordinates all of the development-related functions across the city’s Community Planning & Sustainability and Public Works departments. The customer services provided include building applications and permits, comprehensive planning, development review, GIS mapping services, historic preservation, inspections, licensing, and zoning information.
All customers are encouraged to use www.boulderplandevelop.net before visiting the services center to take advantage of the many services that are available online.
