Boulder police, other agencies, looking for elderly woman, car, dog

Boulder police are asking the public for help in locating a 74-year-old woman who has not been seen since an afternoon appointment yesterday, May 28, 2013.
Betty Begin did not arrive at a scheduled family dinner last evening, and family members are concerned about her welfare. Begin has minor memory issues and can sometimes become disoriented.
She was last seen at the Rubicon Hair Salon, located at 2116 Pearl St., around 1:30 p.m. on May 28, 2013. No one knows where she went after the appointment. Her family contacted police at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday to report that Begin was missing.
Begin’s credit card was used at the Interstate Travel Plaza in Sinclair, WY at approximately 5:30 p.m. on May 28. There has been no other credit card activity since then. At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, her cell phone was “pinged” in the northern part of Colorado. Begin’s phone appears to be powered off; police and family members have not been able to reach her.
Two photos of Begin and a photo of a vehicle similar to the one Begin drives are attached. She drives a light coffee-colored MINI Cooper Countryman. She has a personalized license plate of her last name, “Begin.” Boulder police notified other nearby law enforcement agencies but so far, none has had any contact with her. She is traveling with her dog, Buddy. Buddy is a German short haired pointer mix. He’s brown with black and white spots, and has floppy ears. He weighs between 90-and-100 pounds.
The case number is 13-7008.
Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for Begin and her vehicle, and to contact police immediately if anyone sees her. The Boulder Police Department’s non-emergency number is 303-441-3333. Members of the public may also call 9-1-1 if they locate her.

Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.

Legendary CU women’s b-ball coach Ceal Barry named “interim” AD as Bohn “steps” down

BOULDER—University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano has named Adele Cecilia “Ceal” Barry interim director of intercollegiate athletics for the university, effective Monday, June 3.
Barry currently serves as associate athletic director for student services and senior woman administrator (an NCAA designation) in the department. She replaces Mike Bohn, who submitted his resignation today.
Hired as the women’s head basketball coach in 1983 by then-athletic director Eddie Crowder, she has a 30-year history of involvement in CU athletics. She retired from coaching in 2005 as CU’s winningest coach ever in all sports (427 victories), leading her teams to 12 NCAA tournament appearances, including six Sweet 16 and three Elite Eight appearances. Over 95 percent of her student-athletes graduated and 85 of her players earned Academic All-Conference honors.
“Ceal’s experience, leadership and credibility with our athletic staff and stakeholders make her an ideal person to assume this important role as we search for new leadership,” said DiStefano.

ALERT to Pearl St. Mall Patrons: Shoot’um up being shot in old Boulder Chimera building. It’s just a movie.

This evening, May 28, 2013, a movie production company will be shooting scenes inside the old Daily Camera building, located at the corner of 11th and Pearl. The movie production crew will be using several indoor pyrotechnics, and it’s possible that people near the building could hear some loud noises and see smoke coming from the building. The Boulder Fire Department will have personnel and trucks staged at the building to insure public safety. Boulder police will also be on hand.
The Boulder Fire-Rescue Department wants to alert the public ahead of time about what is happening at the old Daily Camera building, and to reassure the public that anything they hear or see this evening is being filmed as part of a movie.
