On Saturday, May 14th, a very exciting event is going to happen in Denver – and we need your help! Young people have organized marches across the globe to take place May 7 – 14th, and the largest march is slated to happen in Denver on May 14th – sign up to march or to volunteer at the and get detailed information at: www.iMatterColorado.com

Training for being a Marshal will happen on Saturday May 7th. 10 – Noon in Denver: AFSC Office, 901 – W. 14th Avenue (at Kalamath) This is also a retirement community, so please be respectful of the signs in the parking lot, and of the residents in the building. We will meet you at the door and go in together.
4 – 6 PM in Boulder: RMPJC Office, 3970 Broadway, Suite 105. At Broadway and Quince. Go East on Quince off of Broadway to the second parking lot on the right. pull into paring lot and park. Our door is directly in front of you as you turn into the parking lot. By bus – take skip to Quince, and follow above directions.

Boulder celebrates Colorado Children’s Day

For the fifth straight year, Boulder will host a Colorado Children’s Day festival on Friday, April 29 (rain date is April 30), on the Pearl Street Mall between 13th and 14th streets from noon to 4 p.m. This fun and entertaining event will offer free activities to children through elementary school age provided by children-focused City of Boulder departments and programs, community agencies, nonprofit organizations and local businesses.
Ken Hotaling, Kiwanis of Boulder and co-chair for the Colorado Children’s Day event, stated, “The purpose of this event is to reflect on the value our children bring to our lives and our future, celebrate their accomplishments and nourish them in their quest to learn.”
With more than 30 different organizations planning activities, this year’s festival is expected to top last year’s estimated attendance of 1,200 children and adults.
This event is the result of a joint effort between the City of Boulder Children, Youth and Families Division, Kiwanis Clubs of Boulder, the Boulder Valley School District and media sponsor, the Daily Camera. Children, Youth and Families is a division of the city’s Department of Housing and Human Services.
In order to encourage visitors to Colorado Children’s Day to leave their cars at home, Go Boulder and Special Transit are offering families free rides to and from the event on the HOP bus. Please visit www.goboulder.net for maps and bus schedules.

2011 Green Frontier Fest on Sunday, May 1 in Boulder

The City of Boulder’s Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD) is partnering with the ReDirect Guide and the Boulder Green Building Guild (BGBG) to present the 2011 Green Frontier Fest at Boulder’s Central Park, on Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free festival will promote options for healthy and sustainable living.
The Green Frontier Fest will feature BGBG’s annual Green Building Product & Service Fair and is intended to showcase all things “green” in the Boulder valley – from cutting-edge renewable technologies to everyday solutions that can be implemented in the home. The event gives residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy interactive and educational exhibits, sustainable food and drink from vendors, children’s activities, music, entertainment and special presentations by guest speakers.
“We strive to make our community a more sustainable and a healthier place to live, work, and play,” said Kristen Hartel, a LEAD Residential Sustainability Specialist. “LEAD is supportive of the Green Frontier Fest’s vision to showcase environmentally and socially responsible initiatives, products, and choices, as well as promote companies that make up our local economy.”
BGBG’s role in the fair offers attendees face-to-face interaction with architects, builders, solar specialists, heating and cooling experts, energy auditors and other green building service providers.
“The 5th Annual Green Building Product and Service Fair is a must for anyone considering a remodel or new construction project,” said BGBG’s Member & Outreach Manager Meagan Forney. “With so many energy efficiency programs and incentives available today, the time has never been better for homeowners to consider making their home or building more comfortable.”
The Green Frontier Fest was first held in Denver in August 2008, as part of the Democratic National Convention. Since then, ReDirect has been co-producing sustainability-focused events throughout the Front Range.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring together so many great community partners to make this event happen,” said Boulder Area Advocate at ReDirect Guide Lori Powell. “Boulder has such a vibrant community in support of sustainability, and this festival allows us to celebrate that culture while promoting economic growth in this sector.”
