Emergency culvert replacement to impact traffic on 63rd Street near Tom Watson Park on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2

Emergency replacement of a culvert between Tom Watson Park and Coot Lake will cause temporary lane closures and traffic delays along 63rd Street on Thursday, Sept. 1, and Friday, Sept. 2. Work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Alternate routes are advised during construction.

Tree removals to impact traffic the week of Aug. 29

The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Forestry Section is anticipating minor and temporary traffic impacts during the week of Aug. 29 (weather and contractor dependent) as a result of pruning and tree removal work that is necessary for safety reasons.
Traffic impacts include:
● Tuesday, Aug. 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.: Intermittent lane closures on Pearl Street between 18th and 20th streets due to the removal of a large Siberian elm tree in poor health.
● Wednesday, Aug. 31, between 6 and 9 a.m.: Intermittent delays to bike and pedestrian traffic along the Boulder Creek Path during tree pruning operations west of the Boulder Public Library Main Branch.
● Wednesday, Aug. 31, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.: The northbound, outside lane of Broadway Avenue between Arapahoe Avenue and Canyon Boulevard will be closed so crews can remove a honeylocust tree in poor health. The tree was struck by lightning in July 2010 and its health has significantly declined since that time. The transit stop at Central Park will be moved south to the bridge over Boulder Creek during the removal operation.
● Thursday, Sept.1, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.: The southbound, outside lane of Broadway Avenue between College and Euclid avenues will be closed so crews can remove a silver maple tree that is a safety concern due to a large trunk cavity and advanced decay.
Most of the wood from the trees being removed will be recycled into mulch and used in City of Boulder parks. Trees that are being removed will be replaced where possible next spring.
Weekday closures of Cherryvale Road in effect

Boulder County, Colo. – Cherryvale Road is closed to all vehicles, including bicycles, between Arapahoe and Baseline roads on weekdays only (Monday-Friday) from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Aug. 12.
The closures include Old Tale Road at Arapahoe and McSorley Lane and Dimmit Drive between Gapter Road and Cherryvale. Pedestrians and bicycles are allowed on Dimmit.
Detours on 55th and 75th streets are in effect and marked with signage. Accommodations have been made to allow passage of emergency vehicles and school buses along with local traffic and delivery vehicles to homes within the work zone.
The closures are to allow for the timely completion of the Cherryvale Road reconstruction project.
“Cherryvale is a busy road,” Boulder County Transportation Planner Tim Swope said. “We’ve been getting much of the construction done with traffic, but we need two weeks of no daytime traffic in order to finish the remaining tasks. Our goal is to have most of the major construction done by the time school starts in mid-August.”
Boulder County anticipates completing final asphalt paving and road and shoulder striping during the closure. Final support shoulders, roadside grading, construction of a six-foot pedestrian path between Cherryvale and Reserve Drive, and landscaping will likely be completed once the road has reopened to traffic.
All construction is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 1, barring weather delays or unforeseen circumstances.
Once completed, the project will result in a new roadway, improved drainage, five-foot bicycle shoulders and a new soft-surface pedestrian path alongside the Cherryvale Road between Reserve Drive and Arapahoe Road.
