Art Cleaners Share-A-Coat Drive

Brian explains the The Boulder Valley Rotary Club and Art Cleaners Share-A-Coat drive where they collect coats and other clothing items to distribute to children in need. Both adults’ and children’s coats, along with hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves are collected, cleaned by Art Cleaners, and distributed each year in this charitable program for over 20 years and running.
The Boulder Valley Rotary Club will distribute the coats to people in need living in Boulder County through local charities and schools. Collection boxes have been placed at all the Boulder County schools and all Art Cleaners locations.
Art Cleaners cleans the coats and clothing items and distributes them to the Boulder Rotary for redistribution by Christmas each year.
The Boulder Shelter for the Homeless

Greg Harms the executive director of the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless talks to us about the help they provide to people who can’t or are struggling to find a place to live and the mission the shelter provides to homeless adults in and around the Boulder community. With 160 beds and 2 hot meals a day they serve around 90,000 meals a day and provide 5 different programs of supportive help for clients. The Winter Overnight sheltering from October thru April for anyone who needs a place to stay. The year round Transition Program that helps people stay sober and find housing, as well as the Housing First program, that helps chronic homeless people to find and permanent place to stay and get care. Also they run the Boulder County Care which is a street outreach program helping unsheltered people who won’t make it in for the night to get blankets, food and clothing for the cold winter nights. Boulder Collects Donations For Japanese Sister City

The Boulder-Yamagata City Friendship Committee is seeking financial support for Japanese
refugees. It is working with the UN Habitat and Japan Habitat Association to raise funds for
victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier this month.

The largest earthquake in recorded history to hit Japan triggered a tsunami with 23-foot waves
and more than 50 aftershocks that devastated cities and villages along a 1,300-mile coastline.
Victims are taking refuge in Boulder’s Sister City of Yamagata, which is dealing with the fallout
of two natural disasters and currently facing the potential meltdown of nuclear power plants
about 200 miles outside of Yamagata.
Refugees need daily living essentials such as food, water, diapers, powdered milk and clothing.
The Friendship Committee is working with friends in Yamagata to coordinate delivery of
supplies and offer comfort to those people who have been displaced by earthquake, tsunami and now from nuclear crisis.
Boulder-Yamagata City Friendship Committee is soliciting financial contributions and is
working with Yamagata Bank, Yamagata, Japan, to distribute funds to the UN Habitat and Japan
