Boulder celebrates Colorado Children’s Day
Apr 26th
Ken Hotaling, Kiwanis of Boulder and co-chair for the Colorado Children’s Day event, stated, “The purpose of this event is to reflect on the value our children bring to our lives and our future, celebrate their accomplishments and nourish them in their quest to learn.”
With more than 30 different organizations planning activities, this year’s festival is expected to top last year’s estimated attendance of 1,200 children and adults.
This event is the result of a joint effort between the City of Boulder Children, Youth and Families Division, Kiwanis Clubs of Boulder, the Boulder Valley School District and media sponsor, the Daily Camera. Children, Youth and Families is a division of the city’s Department of Housing and Human Services.
In order to encourage visitors to Colorado Children’s Day to leave their cars at home, Go Boulder and Special Transit are offering families free rides to and from the event on the HOP bus. Please visit www.goboulder.net for maps and bus schedules.
For more information and a list of the activities and participating organizations, visit the Colorado Children’s Day at Boulder Website at www.childrensdayboulder.org or email: coloradochildrensdayboulder@gmail.com

Want to be a Summer Organizer for President Obama???
Apr 13th
Next year, President Obama will join thousands of other Democrats on ballots in all 50 states.
These next 19 months will provide some of the best opportunities for community organizing that this movement has ever seen — and we’re looking for a few more folks to join the Summer Organizer Program and take the lead.
From June 4th to August 6th, summer organizers will help lay the groundwork for 2012 across the country, planning events, registering voters, and building neighborhood teams.
These organizers are the future leaders of this movement — will you be one of them?
If you haven’t already, apply here by Monday, April 18th, or pass this message along to anyone else who might be interested.
If selected, you’ll hit the ground running with top-notch training to learn how to recruit new volunteers, manage resources wisely, and run an efficient operation.
Then you’ll get to work in the states. Maybe you’ll run a local strategy session in Philadelphia. Maybe you’ll register voters at a concert in Las Vegas. Maybe you’ll empower a supporter to become a team leader in Dallas.
Or maybe you’ll help fire up a big crowd before the President takes the stage.
No experience is necessary, and anyone can apply — but you need to do so by midnight on Monday, April 18th:

See you out there,

Tuning up the Denver Police Department
Apr 13th
Pretty much if you are the wrong color, or class and you are a little out of line…you need to watch your ass around the Denver PD. They have always had that reputation.
“On Monday, safety manager Charles Garcia terminated officers Ricky Nixon and Kevin Devine, who were accused of excessive force for an incident caught on camera outside the Denver Diner in 2009. The two were dismissed for “commission of a deceptive act.” Garcia found that the reports they filed after the arrests did not match other witness accounts.” according to the Denver Post
Garcia is the new public safety manager overseeing fire and police and he’s not in the mood for any bullshit. Apparently, he’s fired six officers so far this year and has sped up the firing process by eliminating police review board. He just fires em. The police Union and it’s lawyers are fit to be tied but word is on the street, if you are a Denver cop you better get some sensitivity training or find another Job. Pro wresting is hiring.
We think this is all good. If it didn’t happen only increased violence by disenfranchised citizens toward the police would result. Los Angeles is a prime example. The police lost that city in the 80’s under police chief Daryl Gates and it took 20 years to get it back. When people feel threaten by police they start shooting back as was a daily occurrence in LA. We don’t want that to happen here.
Boulder PD instituted a policy of Community Policing when tom Koby was chief and it has been carried on by Mark Beckner. As a result the community is a lot nicer.
