Cropland Policy public hearing set for Thursday
Boulder County, Colo. – The Boulder County Commissioners will hear public testimony and comment on the Cropland Policy Advisory Group’s recommendations for Boulder County Open Space croplands on Thursday evening.

When: Thursday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
Where: Longmont Conference Center, 1850 Industrial Circle
The evening will begin with a presentation from Parks and Open Space staff. The presentation will cover existing practices and programs, the CPAG’s recommendations, and input from the Food and Agriculture Policy Council, the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee, and Parks and Open Space staff..
The presentation will be followed by open public comment to the commissioners. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to provide input, and comments will become a part of the public record. Speakers may sign up starting at 5 p.m. Speakers are held to a three-minute time limit and can pool time up to 10 minutes as long as everyone who signed up is present.
The CPAG, consisting of nine members appointed by the commissioners, held meetings over a nine-month period. Its policy recommendations address soil health, economic sustainability, pest management, program administration, water, livestock, recreation and natural resource protection on agricultural lands. Through a consensus process, CPAG developed more than 80 policy recommendations. Three areas failed to achieve consensus: genetically engineered crops, use of certain pesticides, and experimental farming practices.
Three public meetings have taken place: a staff presentation and public hearing on Nov. 15, FAPC deliberations on Nov. 16, and POSAC deliberations on Nov. 17. Members of the public provided input, and all comments were recorded as part of the public record.

Boulder County Commissioners to hold public hearing on Oct. 27 to solicit input from residents
Boulder County, Colo. – The Boulder County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 to solicit input from residents on suggestions and recommendations for the 2012 county budget.
The hearing will take place in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room on the third floor of the Boulder Courthouse at 1325 Pearl St. in Boulder, and members of the public are invited to provide input on 2012 funding for county services and programs.
During the months of September and October, each county elected office and department, along with representatives from local nonprofit human services agencies, presented their 2012 budget requests to the commissioners at a series of public hearings.
Those funding requests, which can fluctuate up until the time the County Commissioners make their recommendations to budget staff for inclusion in the 2012 budget package, can be viewed in-person Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Commissioners’ Office, also on the third floor of the Courthouse.
The Board of County Commissioners will review all budget requests and public input at the 2012 Budget Work Session to be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room. The public is invited to attend the work session, but no public testimony will be taken.

Sneak peek of ghosts at Columbia Cemetery

What: Columbia Cemetery storage facility ribbon-cutting ceremony (and sneak peek of Ghost Walk/Ghost Talk event scheduled for Oct. 22 and Oct. 23)
When: Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m.
Where: The event will take place at the southwest corner of the cemetery at the storage facility. There is an entrance gate located at the corner of College Avenue and 8th Street.
Background Information:
Please join us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open our new 340-square-foot storage building at the Columbia Cemetery. The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the southwest corner of Columbia Cemetery.
The Parks and Recreation Department collaborated with the University of Colorado’s College of Architecture and Planning, Division of Environmental Design to design and construct the facility. It will be used for storage and restoration of broken or damaged grave markers.
The ceremony is free, open to the public and will last 30 to 45 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include a brief visit with one of the “spirits” who will participate in the Ghost Walk/Ghost Talk events scheduled for Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 (more information below).
Ghost Walk/Ghost Talk event Oct. 22 and Oct. 23
Sponsored by Historic Boulder, Inc., and the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department, this event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Highland Lawn neighborhood homes and Columbia Cemetery (weather permitting). Please note that this is a different event than “Meet the Spirits,” which is held at Columbia Cemetery every other year. Participants can visit a number of “spooky” houses and hear their stories, as well as hearing the stories of five “spirits” at Columbia Cemetery who will be stationed along the roadway in Columbia Cemetery. Columbia Cemetery was founded in 1870 and was the first permanent cemetery in the City of Boulder. The cemetery is a resting place for many early community leaders and a cross-section of Boulder settlers—farmers, miners and trades people.
The cemetery is a historic, cultural and artistic resource owned by the City of Boulder and managed by the Parks and Recreation Department. It is a City of Boulder landmark, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
