Thanksgiving dinner ends in physical altercation

BOULDER COUNTY- At approximately 5:00 p.m. Boulder County Communications received a 911 call reporting a stabbing in the area of West Magnolia, unincorporated Boulder County. Two local transients invited a third to join them for Thanksgiving dinner. The group’s conversation spiraled into a disagreement and physical altercation. The invited guest picked up a kitchen knife and threatened 34 year old Brendan Hayes, who put up his hands to defend himself. The invited guest slashed Brendan’s hands several times. The invited guest left the area prior to Deputies arriving.
Brendan was transported by Pridemark Ambulance to Boulder Community Hospital where he was treated for cuts on his hands.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’ 8”- 5’10” tall. He had brown hair and a slender to medium build. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt. He fled the area in a faded yellow four door sedan. This incident is recorded under Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number 13-6408

CU panel: More help for kids w/mental disorders

resources for families struggling
with behavioral concerns
Families seeking information about childhood psychiatric and developmental disorders are invited to a community open house with experts from the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Colorado School of Medicine on Wednesday, Nov. 13, on the CU-Boulder campus.
Experts will address emerging research on early onset bipolar disorder, prevention of schizophrenia, postpartum depression, attention and behavior disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Each researcher also will describe their community services.
The event, “CU Community Open House: Behavioral Health Resources for Families,” is free and open to the public from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Wolf Law Building, room 207.
A panel of five researchers from the CU-Boulder Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and the CU School of Medicine will explain recent advances in their fields and local research conducted in their CU lab or clinic, as well as resources they offer to families.
The panel will include:

Christopher Schneck, M.D., associate professor of psychiatry at the CU School of Medicine and principal investigator for the Colorado Family Project, will address the pros and cons of receiving services in a research setting.
“Many people don’t realize that free or low-cost evidence-based services are available through a variety of groups at the University of Colorado,” Taylor said. “We invite the public to join us for an evening with local experts and to learn more about the fascinating research taking place in our community and how these programs may benefit local families.”
The brief presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session and opportunities for attendees to speak individually with the presenters.

Boulder County Commissioners to consider 2014 budget requests

Boulder County, Colo. – The Boulder County Commissioners will hold two public hearings to consider 2014 budget requests from county department heads and elected officials.
The first budget hearing, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m. will include flood-related budget requests only. The second hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. will include all non-flood related budget requests for 2014.

The hearings will take place in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room on the third floor of the Boulder Courthouse at 1325 Pearl St. in Boulder, and members of the public are invited to provide input on 2014 funding for county services and programs. Both hearings will be webstreamed “live” atwww.bouldercounty.org/gov/meetings/pages/hearings.aspx and archived on that link for future viewing.
The County Commissioners will conduct their 2014 Budget Work Session ̶ where they take action on requests presented in October ̶ from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room. The public is invited to attend the work session, but no public testimony will be taken. By state law, a county budget for the following year must be approved by Dec. 15.
