Boulder Start Up week starts up on Wednesday

Boulder start Up week is developing from an elitist all white college aged “new entrepreneurial vision of neo -com American business run by wine and coffee snobs” to something that the city of Boulder has endorsed and made an official event. In it’s early days BSUW was an invite, register only press censored event. Much of it was low on substance and high on partying. Don’t get us wrong Boulder start Up week is still a week long drinking convention for 20 and early 30 somethings, but it now has to conform to city strict Human rights policies. Read. It is now open to the public, press and the homeless.
Some of the more serious presentations for entrepreneurs are held by Metzger and Associates and the Boulder Chamber who bring in qualified mentors to actually assist aspiring Start Ups. Yet the week is an overt promotion to attract tech companies to Boulder. Look at the schedule of events and much of it partying drinking. Boulder has a huge rep for drinking drugging and partying in the start Up scene and for those looking for that, you won’t be disappointed. Yet, the schedule has tons of events and with a discerning eye you are bound to find something useful.

Each May, we throw a 5-day event that showcases the unique startup culture of Boulder. No registration required. You’ll find meetups, coffee shop pow-wows, the largest Ignite in the world, parties, drinks, food, hikes, bike rides, sun, and good people.
Wednesday is the official launch of Boulder Startup Week 2013. People from across the Front Rage will be flocking to Boulder to get a taste of the entrepreneurial culture and what it means to get an idea off the ground.

Pipe Bomb at Centaurus High School Suspect Arrested

On Monday, 05/13/13, at approximately 9am officers of the Lafayette Police Department were dispatched to Centaurus High School located at 10300 South Boulder Road on the report of a possible explosive device located on campus.
Centaurus High School was placed on lockdown. Students were safely evacuated and transferred to nearby Ryan Elementary School.
Upon arriving on scene the responding Lafayette officers recognized the device to possibly be a pipe bomb and requested assistance from the Boulder County Bomb Squad. The FBI was also contacted and responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The Boulder County Bomb Squad was able to render the device safe and recovered valuable evidence.
Bomb dogs and their handlers from around the metro area responded to the scene and by 2100 hours had completed searches of the school and the parking lot, including student vehicles that had been left behind when the school was evacuated. No other devices were located, all evidence indicated there were no additional threats to Centaurus High School and the area was determined safe. Students can respond to the school and pick up their vehicles at their convenience.
Due to the response and assistance of the Boulder County Bomb Squad, the FBI, the ATF and all other metro agencies who responded to the scene, the Lafayette Police Department identified a male Centaurus student as a person of interest.
Investigators worked throughout the night and arrested a 16 year old male Centaurus student in conjunction with the explosive device found at Centaurus High School. The juvenile male was located at his residence in Boulder County. Investigators searched the residence and located additional evidence. There is no known motive at this time, however the investigation is on-going.
The juvenile suspect has been arrested on the following charges:
1. Possession of Explosive/Incendiary Parts, 18-12-109(6), Class 4 Felony (for items found at the house), 2 Counts
2. Felony Menacing, 18-3-206, Class 5 Felony.
3. Interference of Educational Institution-Credible Threat w/Deadly Weapon, 18-9-109, Class 1 Misdemeanor.
Due to this being a juvenile suspect and an active investigation there will be no further information, press releases or interviews released by the Lafayette Police Department.

CU men snag a “sleeper” high school basketball player for next year

CU capitalizes on San Antonia b-ball pipeline
BOULDER – University of Colorado men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle and his coaching staff announced Monday they have signed George King, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound forward from San Antonio, Texas to a National Letter of Intent. King will be a freshman at CU beginning of the 2013 fall semester.
King will be one of four true-freshmen on the Buffaloes team that will also feature a pair of redshirt-freshmen. He joins fellow freshmen Tre’Shaun Fletcher, Jaron Hopkins, and Dustin Thomas. The incoming class also features redshirt-freshmen Wesley Gordon and Chris Jenkins, both sat out this past season.
“He can rebound, block shots, shoot and defend,” Boyle said of CU’s latest addition to the roster.
Boyle also said CU was “kind of late to the party” in recruiting King, who conceded he was a “late bloomer” and didn’t start attracting major attention until late in his senior season and went through the April signing period unsigned.
During his senior year, King averaged 16.6 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game in leading the Brennan Bears to a 39-3 record and an appearance in the 4A state semifinals. He shot 60 percent from the field and was named both TABC All-State and District 28-4A MVP. As a senior he recorded 25 double-doubles and had two 20-20 games with 23 points and 20 rebounds against Warren (Nov. 12) and 20 points and 20 rebounds against Lanier (Jan. 29) including 12 rebounds in one quarter.
King was an all-area selection as a junior.
“They believe in me and I believe in them,” King told Rivals.com on signing with the Buffaloes. “I’ve only been to Colorado a handful of times and it was my first time in Boulder,” he said. “I knew I liked it as soon as I stepped foot in Boulder. It has a beautiful campus, really nice people.”
“They have a really good coaching staff, the players and I really clicked. I got up and down with the guys and got a good feeling. (The coaches) like that I’m good sized, I’m skilled, that I can shoot and that I have a lot of potential.”
CU returns two seniors (Ben Mills, Kevin Nelson) on the 2013-2014 roster; along with three juniors (Askia Booker, Spencer Dinwiddie, Beau Gamble); and four sophomores (Xavier Johnson, Josh Scott, Eli Stalzer, Xavier Talton).
By the end of the summer, the Buffs will have graduated three student-athletes (Jeremy Adams, Sabatino Chen, Shane Harris-Tunks). Andre Roberson, who had one more year of eligibility remaining, declared for the NBA Draft on April 28. His sister, Arielle Roberson was nationally ranked as a freshman, will be a sophomore on CU’s women’s basketball team next season.
