Youth Services Initiative announces award recipient and prepares for art show with Journeys through EXPAND

Angel “Nacho” Ramirez, a Youth Services Initiative (YSI) participant, has received the 2011 Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award from the City of Boulder’s Youth Opportunities Program. Ramirez was nominated for his volunteer service, which includes helping organize and assemble race materials for Ironman Boulder and Boulder Running Company fundraising events, mulching for Boulder Housing Partners and Growing Gardens, and helping chaperone YSI overnight trips for the City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department.

“Nacho is an outstanding volunteer because he is selfless in his attitude and behavior. He is motivated to help without seeking recognition or rewards,” said Alex Zinga, YSI program coordinator, who nominated Ramirez for the award. “It doesn’t matter what the task is, getting dirty shoveling mulch or pulling weeds, I can always count on Nacho to step up. He is always very dependable and diligent, often inspiring other participants to emulate his work ethic,” added Zinga.

Ramirez was presented with the award at a Youth Opportunities Advisory Board (YOAB) banquet on Thursday, April 14.

In other YSI news, the organization will co-host an art show with Journeys through EXPAND (EXciting Programs Adventures and New Dimensions) on Thursday, May 5. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the North Boulder Recreation Center (NBRC), 3170 Broadway. Refreshments will be available.

The YSI and Journeys through EXPAND art exhibit will be on display throughout the month of May at the NBRC. All artwork was done by participants in these programs. YSI worked with local artist, Paula Kehoe, on their art pieces.

Is Donald Trump going to be the next president of the United states? Good chance . Here’s Why.

Will Donald Trump be the Obama spoiler? Is he already too big too powerful and too much of a Juggernaut to be stopped? Does he resonate with working people ?  He’s  a worker himself.  Will republicans and Democrats alike abandon the feel good politics of Barrack Obama??  It’s starting to look that way .

Donald Trump wants to bring jobs back to American from India, Mexico and China and he says he has a plan. The plan is to stop the Chinese from jiggling it’s currency, making billions at our loss. He wants the yen to be in line or he will tax them 25% on all exports to the USA.

He’ll do the same with India and Mexico if they don’t immediately get their wages in line with ours. Can he do that?? Yes he can. The problem with NAFTA is that the past three administrations were looking out for the world economy and not ours. NAFTA did not worked and it has put us into a 14 Trillion dollar deficit. China made a 1/2 trillion dollar profit last year from us .

You may think Donald Trump is a joke but a lot of people trust his business sense and they are willing to trade Barack Obama in on that point alone.

Donald Trump wants a payoff to go to war in the Middle East. He unabashedly says  ….If we go into Libya to free them, we want their oil. Right now China gets all of their oil and we are paying for the war in Libya, while China pays nothing. The Arab league wants the USA to pay for the Libyan war but they have paid nothing and have not given us any oil in trade. In fact they raised oil prices to $4.00 a gallon in Vail today.  What Trump says is “screw that”. No more Mamby pambying around. No more America pays for everything.

He is saying what a lot of Americans want to hear. Which is, screw the pansies on the left, He’s going to make other countries pay to do business with us. As an example Iraq has trillions of dollars of oil and they should be paying us back right now.  Trump believes in conquering any country we go  to war with  similar to what we did during WWII, not go in lose American lives, trillions of dollars and then leave with nothing.

Donald Trump is shaking up the political world in New Hampshire and the Democrats are in big trouble.  He could very well be the American maverick who caught Barrack Obama flat footed on this day and storm his way to the white house. We give him a 60-40 chance.

Food Trucks Rule : by Rob Smoke

Food Trucks Rule

Not being completely informed on the topic, I googled “food trucks” and also “food truck rules and regulations” —
TONS of interesting material
Why in the world does Boulder want to effectively prohibit or discourage new food truck businesses?
It can’t be that the local restaurant industry objects, because if they are objecting, they are merely being stupidly reflexive.
The diversity of food choices that food trucks provide make them potential attractions to a neighborhood or event —
thus, even though they might compete with brick and mortar restaurants, they are still desirable neighbors,
particularly if we are talking about trucks bearing some culinary distinction.
In some places, the trucks are only disallowed via objection by a neighboring restaurant, thus it seems
illogical to demand that trucks simply not be located near one.
In some locales food trucks have ridiculous regulations, but in other places those rules are being revamped and redesigned to
encourage this type of business. Food trucks can make unique offerings — cuisine not otherwise found in the city —
if the rules and regulations are such to discourage anyone who might take a shot, you’d think the city would take a closer look at

what rules are actually necessary regarding health and safety issues, and then go a little easier on the broader parameters that

make it either possible or impossible to do business —

if you have a blanket rule against trucks being located near a brick and mortar establishment, you’re making up a rule

that other cities with successful food truck businesses don’t have —

and for what exactly?

I’m trying to comprehend, but alas…

my comments go either unread or unheeded…with no response from anyone except for one person on council who says they disagree —

yikes!!!
