Boulder County It seemed like just yesterday when the entire Boulder city council condemned Jann Scott, his blog and his TV show as a terrorist threat to the community.( He made fun of them on TV nightly) In November of 2007  they shut down Scotts’ cable outlet in order to shut him up. ( Jann also, made fun of every sacred institution in Boulder.) They then created channel 22 which they put under heavy censorship control. They then handed it over to the Boulder Valley School District to run along with a one man maintenance contractor who have all quit or been fired since 2007.  The job doesn’t pay so no one wants the head ache of running a TV channel and putting up with the city .(The contractors also had to put up with Janns constant criticism. He drove them and the city crazy.)

By 2009 the newly created channel 22 was devoid of any new programming and  was pretty much a boring blob of  two year old shows.  In July of 2009 Jann accidentally fell on Lisa Collins the BVSD communications departments attache’. In reality she was the one running the channel. But noone knew it.  The city had a front organization but it was quiet. So Jann  proposed a weekly video blog 22Boom to Lisa Colins.Essentially a magazine show.  Jann was floored when she liked the idea. She was thrilled. She had not heard of Jann but liked what she saw.

He was used to city staff and their contractors being  non receptive to any of Janns vast years of experience and popularity. Scott had been on local cable with regime change interruption since 1989.  But now heading in his 3rd year on Channel 22, 22 Boom is not only the most popular program on BV22,  it has been moved to a “stripped in grid time slot every night at 9pm, repeats at midnite and 7am”. Channel 22 has also added a ton of  other new programing .

22BOOM : The show is a weekly 1/2 hour show with movie reviews, a cooking show, science blog, 3 minutes of him, local bands, and community events from the week in Boulder County, and news. Even the city manager and city communications manager like Jann. They all only have good things to say about him in person, writing and on the record. No one can see what all the hub bub was about when the council went totally ballistic over Janns TV persona. This new show is excellent. It also,  features Farmers market,  Downtown Boulders Band on the bricks, the Creek Festival and other events.  Jann , 22Boom , BV22 are really the face of Boulder again. This is probably Janns’ best work yet on cable : The school district calls 22Boom ” quality, polished programming for the community”.  Even the city managers office have been agreeable. Below is the summer schedule: BV22 Schedule for 22Boom Jann Scott storms back with 22Boom on Channel 22 in  Prime Time! at 9p, 7a, midnite M-Fon Comcast Cable in boulder County except Longmont

Other programming on BV22 has added more programing in 2011. Lin TV is back in Boulder along with new environmental shows from around the USA. It has always been for Boulder to get it together and produce local TV. Producers are few and far between. You would think they would, but years of city censorship have driven them all off. But Still channel 22 remains vibrant and alive with new programming from around America. And yes boulder still has it voice of reason (ahem) ahh fun….yes the face of local TV . Jann Scott. love ya jann

Paper Bird Band at Band on the Bricks

Band on Bricks opens season with Smash: Paper Bird

Several thousand people were on hand last night on the Pearl Street mall  for the first Wednesday night Band on the Bricks concert of the summer.  Paper Bird was  frivolous, fun and mildly entertaining in a goofy kind of way. Not to be taken seriously as musicians ( they couldn’t play) but they did spin their way through several folky, blue grassy, 1940’s original tunes.  Their focus is to “send up”, make fun of and insult musical forms especially blue grass. Thusly, they are called underground.

Basically they were a bunch bums from Breckenridge( or at least they met in Breck according to their website) who formed a terrible garage band around  3 cute girls who managed to harmonize and Walla! a real authentic American underground band .
