Rockies Chacin Back
May 4th

He will try to help his club earn a four-game sweep of the Mets, who counter with right-hander Dillon Gee (2-1, 2.88 ERA).
Chacin’s four Minor League rehab starts, two at Class A Modesto and two at Triple-A Colorado Springs covering 18 innings (1-3, 5.00 ERA), essentially were his Spring Training. His last start, when he went six innings at Memphis and gave up one run on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts, let him know he was ready.
There have been the occasional crazy games, like Saturday’s 11-10 victory over the Mets, when Rockies starter Franklin Morales gave up six runs in five innings. But Rockies starters are 10-2 since April 15.
And the rotation gets back Chacin, 26, who went 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA and forced 30 double-play grounders (second in the Majors to the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright) last season, when he was the Opening Day starter.

Troy Tulowitzki Leads Majors
May 3rd
Troy Tulowitzki leads the Majors in batting at .385, and is hitting .575 in his 12 home games.
Charlie Blackmon is at .380, with at least one hit in 11 of his 13 games at Coors, and Justin Morneau has a 13-game home hit streak and a .365 home batting average.
Then again, Nolan Arenado is hitting everywhere as evidenced by a 22-game hit streak. The run, during which he is batting .352 with two home runs, six doubles and 10 RBIs, is tied for third-longest in franchise history.
The Rockies have made a party of it the last two nights against the Mets, with 17 runs and 24 hits in two wins. The Mets will call upon righty Jenrry Mejia (3-0, 3.49 ERA) to slow that offense in Saturday night’s third game of a four-game set.
Rockies lefty Franklin Morales (3-1, 4.40 ERA) will try to continue the success of the rotation, which is 10-2 with a 3.08 ERA since April 15 and is a key reason the club entered Saturday a game behind the National League West-leading Giants.
The Mets have their own hot hitter. Juan Lagares went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the Rockies’ 10-3 victory on Friday. Lagares has an 11-game hit streak, during which he has hit .333 (15-for-45) with four doubles, six RBIs and five runs scored.

Gonzalez Left Finger Contusion
May 2nd
Before hit his sixth home run of the season, a foul ball dealt him what was later diagnosed as a left index finger contusion.
Gonzalez was replaced with pinch-hitter Brandon Barnes in the fourth inning of the Rockies’ eventual 7-4 victory over the Mets, but neither he nor the Rockies believe the injury to be serious. The finger was still swollen by game’s end, but it had already improved.
Gonzalez suffered a ligament strain of his right middle finger last July, and it severely curtailed his playing time and effectiveness. Thursday’s injury, he said, was nothing like that.
The Rockies announced that his availability would be assessed day to day, but manager Walt Weiss doesn’t think the outfielder will be out of the lineup for long.
The home run, off Mets starter Bartolo Colon with two out in the first inning, was Gonzalez’s second in the last two games — after he had gone homerless since April 11. But the finger was already becoming a problem.
Gonzalez has been trying to climb out of a slump. He left the game with a .245 batting average.
