Boulder County, Colo. – Sheriff Joe Pelle has enacted a ban on open burning and the discharge of fireworks in unincorporated Boulder County. This specifically includes all areas east of the Peak-to-Peak Highway (State Highway 72).

The ban will remain in effect until the hazardous fire conditions subside. Advisory signs will be posted on roadways throughout the county by the end of this week.

The fire ban allows for liquid or gas fuel stoves and fireplaces in buildings. It bans all other open fires and the use of any kind of fireworks.

“Although the high winds will die down the forecast does not call for significant moisture, and continued breezy warm conditions will keep fire danger high,” Pelle said. “Firefighting resources are stretched thin and we need to do everything we can to prevent additional fires.”

Anyone found in violation of the fire ban may be convicted of a class 2 petty offense and may be subject to a $500 fine. Higher fines may be imposed for subsequent offenses.
