“Sweet Story Set During Vietnam War”
“Hotshots” looks at a movie!
THE SAPPHIRES is inspired by the unlikely, but true story of four girls from the aboriginal outback of Australia who form a singing group that entertains the American troops in Vietnam during the war.
The movie begins in 1958 in Australia, and we see four little girls who love to sing performing before an audience. Suddenly a group of government officials show up, and one of the little girls, Kay, is taken away from her family by the officials, because she has light skin, and forced to live in a city with a white family.
This was all part of a government program to integrate aborigines into Caucasian society.
Then the movie shifts to 1968, and we meet Dave Lovelace, played by Chris O’Dowd, who is sleeping in his car and arrives late to work in a bar where he is the emcee of a local talent show, and his boss puts him on his last warning.
Dave says to the audience, “I sort of start off slow, and then I slowly peter out.”
Two young aborigine girls, Gail and Cynthia, are singing in the talent show, they announce that they are from “black fella’ country,” and they sing a country song that the audience doesn’t pay much attention to.
But when their younger sister, Julie, suddenly joins them on stage, their singing becomes much better and so does the audience’s appreciation.
After the talent show, the girls approach Dave, show him a newspaper clipping about an audition in Melbourne for singers and dancers to perform for the troops in Vietnam, and ask him to help them go to the audition.
Dave agrees to help, but says they should sing soul music instead of country music and that Julie should sing lead instead of Gail, which doesn’t please Gail one bit.
Also, while they are in Melbourne, they track down their cousin, Kay, who had been abducted 10 years earlier, and she is able to join them for the audition.
Ironically, while Dave is coaching the girls and teaching them choreography, he says that they should sing their soul songs “blacker.”
So, the girls, accompanied by Dave as manager and chaperone, entertain the troops in Vietnam, where there is danger, conflict, and even romance.
The Sapphires is a sweet and mostly true story set during the Vietnam War.

“Hotshots” looks at a movie!
The Last Exorcism Part II has a title that makes you think, whereas the movie itself just makes you cringe or laugh, sometimes simultaneously.
Maybe the filmmakers just wanted to cash in on the popularity of the trend in blockbuster series of movies having two parts to the final episode in the series, but the operative word here is “blockbuster,” which this movie isn’t, and neither was its predecessor.
Anyway, this movie is just as confusing as it is silly, and it continues where the first movie left off, which wasn’t called “Part I.”
Once again, we follow the story of Nell Sweetzer, who is 17 years old and living in Louisiana. Nell is trying to build a new life after escaping the events of the first movie.
Nell is living in New Orleans, and she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months except that she is the last surviving member of her family, and the evil force that once possessed her is back.
In other words, the last exorcism didn’t work, and now it is apparently time for another one.
Or, as a doctor tells Nell, “It’s your life. You get to decide who you are.”
Nell lives in a house with other troubled teenage girls, who are all under the supervision of the doctor.
Nell has a job as a maid at a motel, where a young man named Chris also works, and they act as if they like each other.
However, strange things start happening to Nell.
A radio talks to her, she answers the telephone, and a strange voice says disturbing things to her.
Nell and the other girls go to watch the Mardi Gras parade, and ominous people in unsettling costumes and masks stare at her, and she also thinks she sees her dead father across the street watching her, but of course he suddenly disappears.
Nell also has disturbing and erotic dreams, and so we never know if what we are watching is supposed to be real or just another one of her dreams.
Eventually Nell meets a woman with special powers who tells Nell that the demon that was in her before loves Nell and wants her.
So, naturally this woman arranges for an exorcism to get the demon out of Nell.

“Can Just Be Skipped”
“Hotshots” looks at a movie!
This Is 40 is written and directed by Judd Apatow, and some are calling it a sequel to his 2007 Knocked Up, but it is only an elaboration of two of the characters in that earlier movie.
Paul Rudd plays Pete, and Leslie Mann plays Debbie, and she also happens to be Apatow’s wife.
Pete and Debbie have two daughters, Sadie, who is 13, and Charlotte, who is 8, and they also happen to be the real daughters of Apatow and his wife.
But before you start thinking, “Oh, isn’t that nice,” be aware that the language used by the two girls is so profane that they wouldn’t even be allowed to see their own movie in the theater.
Not that they, or anyone else, for that matter, should want to see this movie.
Pete and Debbie are both turning 40 in the week of December 5, and the movie opens with a scene of both of them in the shower, but the conclusion is not expected, and we hear, “That is the worst birthday present you could ever give anyone.”
Yes, the beginning is gross, but supposed to be funny, which could also be said about the entire movie.
Then we get a cliche scene about Debbie’s birthday cake, which claims that Debbie is only 38, and Pete explains to the daughters that their mother doesn’t want to be 40, and so the cake indicates 38.
You couldn’t write this stuff, and if you read a recent story about Apatow, it might not have been written, because the story says that Apatow likes to shoot a lot of footage of the actors improvising the scene, and if Apatow thinks the improvisation is good, he will go back and keep shooting the scene with the new ideas until he has what he wants.
And even then, that scene might not make it into the final cut.
Meanwhile, back to the movie, we see Pete planning his own elaborate birthday party, Debbie having to figure out if one of her employees is stealing money from the store, the girls constantly fighting while being obsessed about watching episodes of the old “Lost” television series, many references to modern celebrities and excessive use of modern technology, and disjointed scenes that don’t really fit together.
This Is 40 can just be skipped.

I have been talking about these people on Radio and TV since the late 1980′s . For a while it was just christian preachers and a few brave mental health workers who were sounding the alarm. Now since Sandy Hook everybody is talking about it.
When you fill young men’s heads with bull shit, it will influence them into bad behavior.
Klebolt and Harris were obsessed with the video game Doom. The game took hold of their minds and turned them into the first school mass murderers.
James Holmes was obsessed with violent Batman movies and video games. In his isolation he went mad and shot scores of people in an Aurora movie theater.
I blame the video game manufacturers for preying on our children. We need to go after them as harshly as we go after the gun manufacturers. They are greedy monsters. All of the violent film makers are the same kind of trash. And we need to go after the film industry too. I am. It is a disgrace what they have done to our country.
Boulder of course is incredibly stupid. We legalized pot here and the first thing that happened is two monsters from CU attacked an entire class room by poisoning brownies with potent drugs, sending kids and teacher to the hospital. I hope they go to the penitentiary.
This is a city which embraces developers of violent video games. It is a city which embraces illegal Hacking. It is a city which embraces illegal drug use. It is a city which embraces violence.
How did we ever get to a place in America where we tolerated movie makers who pump out so many violent films that our children have gone mad and have started to commit mass murders. The Gamers, the gun manufacturers, the dope dealers, the film makers and oh lets not forget Boulder’s Giant porn industry that no one wants to talk about.
New Frontier Media has hundreds of employees. It recruits young girls in Hollywood. They promise them stardom and big money. The girls become addicted to narcotics, work in sleazy hotels, are abused and sold. All of their exploitation is orchestrated right here in Boulder where the movies are made and then distributed. Yes we are the center of sexual slavery too. And we call it a business.
Shame on the whole city for allowing this to go on.
