Jann in Boulder with new 2003 4wd TV production truck

Jann Scotts Journal : Some of the things I do to protect myself.

0

First of all when you are a high profile media personality such as myself , you have to talk to other TV or radio media types “with

FBI Director Robert Mueller dressed up as J. Edgar Hoover at tyranny girl convention in DC 2012

FBI Director   J. Edgar Hover was prepared for the Arian Nation. Are You?

an attitude” to see what they do.  Then it doesn’t hurt to meet with police safety experts.  It is also important to know who your enemies are and what potential they have to kill you.

In my case my life has been threatened so many times, I became proactive in my own protection and defense.

I have had police tell me straight up. We can’t protect you, you have to protect yourself.

As a talk show host I have interviewed countless Gang experts, cops of all types and I came away with one solidifying factor.

Cops carry guns in holsters on their hips. They wear bullet proof vests and they are constantly vigil when on the job.  If you are a criminal or violent offender and you are going to get into a gun fight with a cop , you are probably going to lose.

If you are a mouthy talk show host  and piss off the wrong element of society, you better be as prepared as a cop when bad guys come gunning for you or you are going to die.

An expert in the Amend program which treats violent offenders once asked me, “do you actually think you are going to out draw a violent man who is intent on killing you??”

People who are targets, who carry concealed weapons will never out draw a violent offender or come out of an ambush alive.

Now just so that you know in my line of work I have been kidnapped at gun point by three assailants who were never caught.  I have had guns pulled on me twice. One was a drug dealer who aimed a gun at my chest point blank from his car window because he did not like my stance on drugs. I instantly disarmed him, drug him out of the car by his hair and pinned him until the sheriff got there..

The second time was during a live radio show with former DA Bill Ritter and Governor Rohmer at 9th and Corona in Denver. A right wing Arian man wanted to shoot me . He was subdued by two Denver PD who were standing in the crowd.

I don’t think Ritter nor Romer know how close we all came to dying that night.

Even so, I had two armed body guards provided by the Radio station standing ten feet from me and they missed the whole thing.

Body guards are a good investment when tensions are high and people are threatening your life. I have always hired armed body guards in my career on Radio and TV.  You never know who or when an assailant will jump out of the bushes and shoot you dead when you are getting out of your car.

That happened to my colleague Alan Berg in 1984. He had so taunted the Aryan nation that they ambushed him and killed him outside his home.

When Seth Brigham kept whispering in my ear “ I can kill you any time I want” I wasn’t waiting to call 911 to protect myself. I hired an armed guard to watch Seth and to protect me.  In that case the police could not protect me and the media made a joke out of Seths threats.

You cannot listen to people who say you are over reacting when you get death threats.  The Daily Camera were in such denial in their reporting, that they actually made it dangerous for me. I told them about it in no uncertain terms. They still thought it was a joke. But you can’t listen to people who have never experienced vehement threats from fans, callers or political crazies who have targeted you.

You cannot listen to nay sayers when your life is being threatened.

Under extreme circumstances, I have armed myself to the teeth and wore a bullet proof vest. I have actually walked down the middle of a dark street  with a gun in hand just to secure my ability to get to my car and drive home.

I have had black Cripps gangsters follow me to my car knowing that they were not going to kill me with out a fight.  I have had Body guards walk with with me with shot guns to my car.

I have told people on the air if you come for me I will be ready and you may get a few rounds off at me, but I am taking you with me. It is very important to not show fear to violent offenders and to let them know you are as big a nightmare as they are. I swear that has saved my life more than once. That is the kind of attitude you have to have with violent offenders intent on hurting you.

You have to know when you are in a war zone and be prepared to defend yourself and match the threat with overwhelming bravado and visible firepower. Visible firepower.

If you in the line of work where people want to kill you… You know provocative talk show host, DA, cop, etc…. I think you have to be as prepared as a street smart cop.

I have taken multiple self defense classes. One was model mugging for men. How to defend against multiple assailants with hand guns.  I have studied and practiced shoot no shoot scenarios. I have gone up against armed gunmen.

My son is a LERP special forces Marine. When I see him we train in how to disarm assailants at 30 paces.

So yes I take my personal protection very seriously. I learned from Denver Police: refuse to be a victim.

Now with me. It is protect myself or get out of the TV talk business.

And that is the question high profile people have to ask themselves, : How far am I willing to go for personal protection. ?

From the land of happy hippies

William Randolph Hearst Foundations make $100,000 grant to Flagler College

0

Flagler College President Dr. William T. Abare, Jr., announced that the College had received a grant of $100,000 from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations of New York. The grant was approved by the Foundation’s board of trustees in June to establish the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund to support African American students enrolled at Flagler College. Flagler College matched the grant with $100,000, creating an endowment of $200,000.

“Flagler College is immensely pleased and proud to receive this grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations,” said Abare. Funding from such a prestigious national foundation underscores Flagler College’s growing reputation, the quality of its educational programs, the caliber of its students and the soundness of its operations. The grant will enable us to enroll, retain and graduate more African American students.”

Enrollment of African-American students at Flagler has grown significantly in the past four years and with this growth has come the need for increased financial assistance. In 2011-2012, 86 percent of Flagler students received financial aid through federal, state and institutional programs.

“Given the financial pressures on students and their families, additional grant support can help make Flagler College an affordable choice, as well as a sound educational investment,” said Abare. “The Hearst Scholarship Fund can provide this additional assistance for qualified students.”

Flagler College has other scholarships that benefit African-American students, including the Watson-Bailey Endowed Scholarship, the Buckingham-Smith Benevolent Association Scholarship for African-American students in St. Augustine, the Junkanoo Scholarship for Abaconian students, the Robert B. Tinlin Memorial Endowed Scholarship and the Tomorrow Scholarship for Minority Students.

The Hearst Foundations fund exemplary institutions of higher education dedicated to preparing students to succeed in a global society. Preference is given to undergraduate education at medium size private, liberal arts colleges and universities. The Foundations’ funding interests are focused on endowed scholarships, as well as compelling programmatic and capital initiatives that advance an institution’s ability to provide quality education. Private nonprofits with significant support from the philanthropic community are favored over those financed through government sources.

KCOL Fails Fort Collins during High Park Fire

1

Under investigation by the FCC for failing it’s responsibilities

I couldn’t believe my ears Monday morning when I tuned in to see what was happening.  Did I have the wrong radio station? Had the circus commandeered our precious information resource ? What the hell???

High Park Fire raged while Al and Sue at KCOL left Ft Collins with out a voice. they could have done something.

I expected to hear Ft Collins news talk radio station 600 KCOL to be pumping out information about the High Park Fire: You know the stuff we residents need right now during a raging wild fire.  The latest evacuations, escape routes, where is the Red Cross located? Where can I eat? Where can I sleep?. Is there a medical team , my aunt is having a hard time breathing? Where are are some clean clothes?  What roads are open.? Is my house still standing.? Little things like that.

Al Malmberg refused to give information that would save lives

Instead I got the idiot team of Al Malmberg and Sue Sutton acting as though they were on vacation in Disneyland. Worse they were having endless banal jokes about duct tape, her husband, their weight as though the city was not on fire at all.  Their insensitivity and and complete lack of broadcast news professionalism is the reason for this column.

This radio station failed so completely to be there for Ft Collins in its greatest time of need, the entire morning show should be fired. The GM should be fired. And Clear channel the corporate vampire should absolutely lose it license to operate this radio station.

When I called Sue and Al, they were insulted that I dare question their programming decisions.  They absolutely did not understand why they should suspend all programming and help the community while it burned.  That is the chief criteria for an FCC license: Be good stewards of the airwaves we entrust in you. They could have taken calls, brought in volunteers, gotten out information, listened to the fire scanners.  Did they do any of that? Hell no.  They twiddle twaddled each other. These two are the worst kind of incredibly stupid broadcasters. So thoughtless.

Sue Sutton told duct tape jokes instead of Evacuation routes

When I talked to the Managing director of the FCC in Washington, he launched an immediate investigation of Al, Sue and KCOL.  Nicky Shears the special agent in charge of Colorado called me.  She was incensed by the morning show. ” I have been listening and they are not doing much on the fire. I understand your concerns and the concerns of the city. Frankly we are concerned. Every 15 minutes they give very brief update” she said.  ”We are taking the KCOL situation very seriously and it will not end here, I assure you.” she said.

What could the FCC do. ?? Suspend the KCOL license, yank the million dollar investment from Clear Channel and hand it to a real community minded person for  $1.00. They could do that.

Since KCOL radio in Fort Collins Colorado has clearly violated the spirit of broadcasting, the FCC will likely enact some law that will force the local radio station to go on the air and help with the disaster.

To make matters even worse KCOL pumped out Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and other haters all day and night and never addressed the fire at all.

“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” All Right in the End

“Everything All Right in the End”

“Hotshots” looks at a movie!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is about a hotel in India of that name, but ending in even more words of “For the Elderly & Beautiful,” it is a beautiful, lovely, and funny movie, and it just might be the best movie you will see all year.

Based on the 2004 novel These Foolish Things by Deborah Moggach, the movie follows seven British pensioners who accept the offer from the hotel’s new owner and manager to travel there and kick-start its business.

In fact, the brochure that persuaded the seven strangers to go to India for a new adventure was Photoshopped to look like what the young manager hopes it will look like, and after they arrive, he adds “Now with Guests” to the hotel sign.

The manager’s name is Sonny Kapoor, he is played by Dev Patel of the 2008 Slumdog Millionaire, and when the new arrivals complain about the hotel’s condition, Sonny assures them with his optimistic philosophy, “Everything will be all right in the end.  If it’s not all right, then it is not yet the end.”

The most well-known actors playing the pensioners, who are all there for different reasons, are Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy, and Maggie Smith, and although it is difficult at first to keep them and their stories straight, just sit back, relax, and let them all be as wonderful and enjoyable as the sights, sounds, and colors of India itself.

One of the pensioners has been forced to sell her London flat, another one lived happily in India 40 years ago and is returning to settle a matter that has been bothering him all that time, another one doesn’t like foreigners, but requires a cheap hip replacement, one unhappily married couple lost money in a bad investment, one woman is looking for a rich husband, and the final pensioner is a man who is lonely and just looking for some female companionship.

In the meantime, Sonny has his own romantic problems, because his mother doesn’t approve of his girlfriend and has her own plans for his future bride.

And don’t think that the pensioners will find what they are looking for within their own group.

Remember Sonny’s optimistic philosophy?

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, when it comes to the end, will leave you thinking that everything is all right.

I’m Dan Culberson and this is “Hotshots.”

Occupy Boulder, Really?

0

Lets look at the issues:

Corporations, Are they really bad. If you are a communist they are bad. Communists want everything to be controlled by the state. Look how well that worked out for Russia and China. They switched their economic systems to model after American Capitalism.2eco.jpg

Corporate Person hood. Is it evil? By definition corporations take on the characteristics of a person. But corporations exist to protect individual share holders, officers, workers, and managers. A corporation is an entity. Now in Boulder the communists want the federal government to end Corporate Person hood. Why? so that the proponents of anti capitalism will gain power is my take.  When I see Regina Cowles an avowed Communist , head of NOW ( a communist radical organization of women) trying to get our children to vote out corporations, it makes my head spin.

Occupy Boulder? Why bother?  What’s wrong with Boulder? How about nothing. Everything is right about Boulder. The economy is good. There are plenty of Jobs. Capitalism is at work. The Commies are happy here. There are plenty of government jobs supported by American capitalism. There are more corporate and government jobs here than we know what to do with. Everybody is rich here. The Entrepreneurs are making money hand over fist. Start up “corporations” are flourishing. We are in fact a hot bed of rich American capitalists with communist ideals. But just try to take our money. No I don’t think Boulder wants to do away with Corporate Person hood and neither do you, if you plan on continuing to eat at the Kitchen.

The Kitchen, The St. Julien  These very hip, very left speak easys are Bastions of Boulder super Capitalism. The men who opened these two establishments made millions dare I say billions off the American Capitalist system. Do you think they want to do away with Capitalism and corporations?? Bullshit.

Boulder Weeklies Pam White is a communist But do you think Boulder weekly is a collective News Paper?? Think again. It is owned by Stewart Gallo and he runs it with an Iron Fist.  Pam White may try to sell ” shared wealth” to you and Stewart Gallo may let her have her say in “Uncensored” but Boulder weekly is all about the money. All about advertising revenus. All about consumerism. All about the sell. All about perception. They fucking want to stay in business and their advertisers better get results or its all over for Pam and the other writers there.

So what’s the problem with Wall Street?  Well, nothing really. We have had financial markets in this country since our birth…even before out birth. If there weren’t banks and financial institutions to finance our homes, cars , business’s, our float, international credit, commercial lines of credit, we, my friends would descend into chaos, anarchy, civil war, starvation in a heart beat. So none of that is ever going to happen. The American Capitalist system is here to stay and “it ain’t never going away, bucky”

It’s the Banks  I agree the investment bankers, hedge funders, the traders who leveraged our money market savings, who sold us short “literally” are the scum who should be charged, tried and executed by firing squad in front of the New York Stock Exchange. We used to do that sort of thing in this country. Maybe we should bring it back.

But for you to blame Wall Street because you can’t find a job, or you took out a dumb student loan is they wrong way Jose’ Speaking of Jose, he loves it here in Boulder. He has plenty of work because the privileged white American kids don’t want to work. Now stop complaining and stop blaming and go to work. Make something happen.
