National Caregiver Training Program courses scheduled for early 2011

Upcoming courses:
• Wednesdays, Jan. 12-Feb. 23, 1:30-4:30 p.m., Calvary Bible Church, 3245 Kalmia Ave., Boulder
• Thursdays, March 10-April 21, 1:30-4:30 p.m., Lafayette Public Library, 775 W. Baseline Road
Classes include detailed instruction, take-home materials, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, and cover the following topics:
• Caring for someone on bedrest
• Personal care
• Safe wheelchair use
• Medication management
• Taking vital signs
• Infection control
• Nutrition
• Fall prevention
• Reducing personal stress
• Local resources
The courses are open to Boulder County residents providing unpaid care for a relative, partner, or friend who is 60 or older (50 and older if the person has dementia). Registration is free; donations are welcome. Financial assistance for respite care (substitute elder care) during class periods is available.

Public invited to provide comments on 2011 county budget

Commissioners to hold public hearing on Oct. 28 to solicit input from residents
Boulder County, Colo. – The Boulder County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 to solicit input from the public on suggestions and recommendations for the 2011 county budget. The hearing will take place in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, third floor, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.
Each county elected office and department, along with representatives from local nonprofit human service agencies, presented their 2011 budget requests to the county commissioners at a series of public hearings held throughout September and October.
The Board of County Commissioners will review those budget requests at their 2011 Budget Work Session to be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room. The public is invited to attend the work session, but no public testimony will be taken.
Members of the public can provide comments about the budget at Thursday’s hearing, by email to commissioners@bouldercounty.org, by mail to: Boulder County Commissioners’ Office, P.O. Box 471, Boulder, CO 80306, or by phone to 303-441-3500.
By state law, the Board of County Commissioners must adopt a final 2011 budget by Dec. 15.
