City of Boulder News Briefs Dog Dayz dog-swim offered at Scott Carpenter Pool Sept. 6 to Sept. 18

Scott Carpenter Pool will close for public swimming at the end of the day on Sept. 5. From Sept. 6 through Sept. 18, the pool will be open for dogs to swim and play in the pool. The cost is $5 per dog, per session, or $30 for unlimited entries by one dog during the 2011 Dog Dayz season.
A Dog Expo featuring dog-friendly products, vendors and organizations will also be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the pool. The pool will be open for the dogs to swim and organizations from around the county will be on hand with samples, prizes and information.
Both Spruce Pool and Scott Carpenter Pool will remain open for public swimming through Labor Day. Dog Dayz dog swimming is open daily; for a complete listing of hours and rules, please visit www.BoulderParks-Rec.org.
Municipal Court closed morning of Sept. 9 for staff meeting
Boulder Municipal Court will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, for a staff meeting.
East Boulder Community Park grand re-opening celebration Aug. 27

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department will host an East Boulder Community Park grand re-opening event on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the East Boulder Community Park and East Boulder Recreation Center, 5660 Sioux Drive.
The free, public event will celebrate the recent completion of major improvements to the park, including:
● Addition of two, multi-sport synthetic turf fields;
● Renovation of the dog park;
● Resurfacing and lighting of five tennis courts;
● Improvements to handball courts;
● Addition of pedestrian and multi-use path connections;
● Renovations to grass open play fields;
● Addition of a parking lot on the south side of the park; and
● Improvements to landscaping, drainage and irrigation.
The re-opening event will feature:
● 8 to 8:45 a.m.: Free outdoor fitness bootcamp behind the tennis and basketball courts in the East Boulder Community Park.
● 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Free admission to the East Boulder Recreation Center; free child care; and free dance, yoga and fitness class samplers.
● 9 to 11 a.m.: Free youth and adult tennis lessons with Gonzo. Humane Society of Boulder Valley volunteers will have information, treats and adoptable dogs.
● 10 to 10:30 a.m.: Ribbon-cutting ceremony on the grassy area between the east multi-sport field and the dog park.
● 10:30 to 11 a.m.: Water-wise turf demonstration garden preview, highlighting different water conserving turf species and irrigation methods. The turf garden will be completed in 2012—but you can get a preview now. It is located on the south side of the recreation center and east side of the ponds.
Boulder Police Department partners with Crime Stoppers to curb animal abuse & cruelty

Before now, there was no specific program for animal cruelty to be reported through anonymous tips in Colorado. Crime Stoppers will offer this anonymous tip service indefinitely, and anyone in Colorado is free to use it.
Tips can be reported via phone or text messaging. Concerned residents may call 800-222-TIPS or they may text a message to CRIMES (274637). Those using the text message option should title their message “NOCO” (Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers).
Anyone suspecting that dogs, cats or horses are being abused or neglected are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers if they would prefer to make an anonymous report. The Boulder Police Department’s Animal Control Division is also available to take reports and to respond. A call to police may result in a more immediate response. The non-emergency dispatch number for BPD is 303-441-3333. As always, please call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency.
