Out of town on Election Day? You have options.
Oct 11th
Boulder County, Colo. – Planning to be out of town on Election Day? The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s Office offers several options for travelers, overseas military, college students and others who can’t vote in person on Tuesday, Nov. 6:
- Vote by mail-in ballot. If you aren’t signed up to vote by mail-in ballot, it’s not too late. Visit www.BoulderCountyVotes.org soon to request one. Then vote and return it to a drop-off site or Boulder County Clerk & Recorder’s office by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
- Vote at an early voting location. If you’d prefer not to receive a mail-in ballot but won’t be in town to head to your polling place on Election Day, early voting is a great option. Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 22, at our Boulder and Longmont branch offices. Additional early voting locationswill open Oct. 29 in Boulder, Lafayette and Longmont. Early voting runs through Friday, Nov. 2.
- Request an overseas/military ballot. If you’ll be out of the country altogether, you can still request a ballot and receive it via snail mail or email – but contact us soon, because mailing a ballot overseas takes extra time. These voters have until Nov. 14 to return their ballots as long as they’re postmarked no later than Nov. 6.
Visit www.BoulderCountyVotes.org to learn more about these options, or call 303-413-7740 for more information. You can also visit one of three Boulder County Clerk & Recorder’s Office branches: 1750 33rd St. in Boulder; 529 Coffman St. in Longmont; or 722 Main St. in Louisville. Rush-hour accident claims life of motorcyclist
Aug 22nd
A motorcyclist has died as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident which occurred at 30th Street and Oneal Parkway on August 21, 2012.
At 4:53 p.m., the female driver of a 2000 Lexus SUV pulled out of a private parking lot driveway and was attempting to make a left turn onto northbound 30th Street. The driver told police she thought she had enough time to safely make the turn, but a motorcyclist traveling southbound on 30th Street did not have enough time to stop.
Although the motorcycle rider braked to avoid an accident, he collided with the SUV. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Witnesses at the scene attempted CPR, but were unsuccessful. Police are not releasing the victim’s name until notifications are made to his family.
The accident is still under investigation.
100,000 Coloradans support an initiative to overturn Citizens United ruling
Aug 6th
Our elected officials are supposed to serve the voters, not the highest bidder. Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections, Super PACs and other independent groups have spent huge amounts, in some cases outspending individual campaigns by a ratio of 2-to-1. Citizens United-enabled outside group spending, much of it secret, is devoted overwhelmingly to negative attack ads. The funds come from a very small cluster of people; a recent report found that just 47 people, each giving at least $1 million to Super PACs, accounted for more than 57 percent of the money raised by Super PACs during this current election cycle.
Along with millions around the country, the people of Colorado are courageously reclaiming their elections and making sure that democracy is for people, not for corporations. State legislatures have called for an amendment in California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, New Mexico, Vermont, Rhode Island and Maryland; more than 280 communities across the country have done the same. Public Citizen is proud to continue partnering with groups like Common Cause and U.S. PIRG, as well as the people of Colorado, as they push forward toward restoring our democracy.
