“Middle Passage” Commemoration – This special presentation from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the north lawn of the Castillo de San Marcos is part of a nationwide initiative to “remember the Africans who were brought to these shores by ships in bondage…more importantly…to commemorate those who did not survive this arduous trip we call the Middle Passage”. Expedition Florida 500 – Stand up paddle boarder and Mother Ocean CEO Justin Riney arrives at 3 p.m. in St. Augustine as part of his Expedition Florida 500, a year-long, one-man voyage along the coast of Florida to celebrate the state’s 500th anniversary. From 2 to 4 p.m., stand up paddlers, kayakers and canoeists are welcome to join Justin as he enters Salt Run and continues to the St. Augustine Lighthouse Park. Then from 4 to 6 p.m., there will be a coastal clean-up at the Lighthouse Park area. On Tuesday at 10:45 a.m., Justin will arrive at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park, 11 Magnolia Ave., St. Augustine, where he will be greeted with a Marine Combat Landing Salute featuring drums, cannon and musket fire. The City of St. Augustine will present an official proclamation. Participation is free with regular admission. Greek Landing Day Memorial – Hundreds of Greeks, Minorcans and Corsicans arrived in St. Augustine on June 26, 1768, and went on to establish the New Smyrna Colony. St. Photios Shrine will host a special proclamation and memorial commemorating those colonists. Admission is free. Murder in The Old City – A murder mystery in the nation’s oldest city, combined with great dining, creates a memorable and enjoyable evening of entertainment. Tickets to this five-star dinner theatre experience at the Raintree Restaurant are $39.95 (adult beverages served separately). NOTE: St. Johns County residents with a valid ID are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Fountain of Youth (special events excluded), the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, and the Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St. Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum (donations are welcomed). Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St. Johns County residents with valid ID.
