23rd season of Concerts in the Plaza draws to a close
Aug 28th
What’s been called “the best way to spend a Thursday night in St. Augustine,” Concerts in the Plaza concludes this week with one more Thursday night performance and then the traditional Labor Day afternoon closing show.
The weekly music series, offered free to the community’s visitors and residents each summer since 1991, runs each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day offering a wide variety of musical entertainment free of charge.
There are two more opportunities to enjoy the great entertainment in a great place for which Concerts in the Plaza has become known.
The last of the Thursday night performances is on August 29 from 7:00pm-9:00pm and features a regional favorite, Lonesome Bert & The Skinny Lizards offering up their own original Americana folk.
Then, as it as done since its inception, the season concludes on Labor Day afternoon with a variety of performers hosted by the St. Augustine Jazz Society. The concert on Monday, September 2 runs from 1:00pm-5:00pm.

Public meeting scheduled for St. Augustine Multimodal Transportation Center Study
Aug 28th

The public is invited to attend and share with the TPO review location options and share preferences.
With the potential to restore Amtrak service on the FEC rail line and to develop regional commuter rail, the North Florida TPO is evaluating potential sites for a future transportation hub where people can connect to rail through many transportation options. A new multimodal center will enhance economic development and tourism, while providing new mobility choices to connect the St. Augustine area with the North Florida region.
Site options were selected by a GIS-based suitability analysis using weighted criteria. Factors considered include population, employment, accessibility via rail, plane, car, bus, trolley and bike, and environmental impacts. A stakeholder working group was formed with government officials, economic development experts, community activists, rail historians and interested citizens. The group has worked to identify potential sites, weight selection criteria and evaluate parcels ensuring a thorough and objective assessment.

Information on venues and musicians sought for Mumford and Sons
Aug 28th
It’s no secret that St. Augustine has a rich heritage of musical entertainment and a vibrant arts community. In fact, it was that aspect of the Nation’s Oldest City that in large part attracted the promoters of the Mumford and Sons to select St. Augustine as one of the few locations for the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover, September 13 and 14.
Because of the worldwide popularity of Mumford and Sons, it is certain that an international spotlight will shine on St. Augustine during the event’s two days, so local organizers are working to showcase these unique aspects of this unique city by promoting local musicians and the venues in which they perform.
Venues both downtown and in the beach communities will be promoted through the event’s primary website, www.GOTRstaug.com, to the thousands who will be St. Augustine for the event, for while the main Gentlemen of the Road event will take place on Francis Field, musically St. Augustine has something to offer everyone.
Performers and operators of live music venues throughout the area are encouraged to share information regarding activities scheduled for anytime from Thursday, September 12 through Sunday, September 15 for including in the promotions.
Contact Elizabeth Glasgow at eglasgow@sjcfl.us or 904.209.3753, and share activity details, including date(s), time, location and a brief description for inclusion in the entertainment guide.
