Hotel Ponce De Leon Carrere & Hastings Blueprint Exhibit –
In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Ponce de Leon Hotel, historically and culturally significant ephemera relating to the construction and early years of the Hotel Ponce de Leon will be on display. This exhibit includes original Carrere and Hastings and McGuire drawings and blueprints, photographs, a copy of an 1885 map, and construction documents. Additionally, the exhibit highlights a group of artists who made the Hotel Ponce de Leon their seasonal home during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Original artwork and other artifacts related to their time in Saint Augustine will also be displayed at Flagler College’s Crisp – Ellert Art Museum, located at 48 Sevilla St., St. Augustine. Edwin Augustus Moore Special Exhibit at the Lightner Museum – The private collection of Edwin Augustus Moore paintings are featured as a special exhibit at The Lightner Museum through May 1. Moore was an American painter, traveler, journalist, photographer and composer who used St. Augustine for many of his landscape watercolor subjects. He visited the ancient city in 1895 along with other members of his artistic and eccentric family. What Could Be Exhibition – Artist Anna von Mertens’ What Could Be exhibition is on display at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, 48 Sevilla St., in St. Augustine. The artist meticulously translates empirical data about subjects as far ranging as energy in nuclear explosions to auras in historical paintings into paintings, hand-dyed and hand-stitched fabrics. Charles Reid Watercolor Workshop – Renowned watercolorist Charles Reid provides a 4-day workshop that teaches students how to simplify a painting and avoid overworking a piece. Lighthouse 5K & Fun Run will necessitate minor interruptions in traffic

The Junior Service League of St. Augustine’s Lighthouse 5K & Fun Run, held in conjunction with the annual St. Augustine Lighthouse Festival
will affect traffic in the Lighthouse and Davis Shores Neighborhoods. The event is set for Saturday, March 2 starting at 4:30pm.
The race starts at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum on Red Cox Dr. and then follows a route along Carver St. E., Lighthouse Ave., White St., Magnolia Dr., Ocean Way, Anastasia Blvd., Comares Ave./Inlet Dr., St. Augustine Blvd., Zoryada Ave., Flagler Blvd., Comares Ave., and returning to the starting point by the same route. A map is available online at the event’s web site at www.lighthouse5k.com.
Traffic will be detoured or momentarily interrupted during the race, so drivers in the affected areas are asked to use caution and expect brief inconveniences.
Bike plan open house scheduled for Wednesday, March 6
Residents in Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns Counties will have one final opportunity to provide input for the North Florida Regional Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan Study being conducted by the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (North Florida TPO). A series of five open-house walk-through public meetings with multiple stations will allow attendees to review and comment on the plan’s draft elements.

Super Community Collection Day set for Saturday, March 9
The St. Johns County Solid Waste Management Department will host a free Super Community Collection Day from 8:00am until noon on Saturday, March 9 at Murray Middle School, 150 N. Holmes Blvd, St. Augustine.
County residents are encouraged to bring household hazardous waste, electronics, and tires for disposal. Household hazardous waste items acceptable for collection include paint, motor oil, gasoline, pesticides and insecticides, aerosol cans, and solvents and thinners. Acceptable E-waste items include monitors, keyboards, computers, desktop and laptop computers, mobile phones, radios, and video cassette recorders. In addition, up to ten tires per household can be disposed of free of charge. Yard debris, garbage, construction waste and other items generated by commercial activity will not be accepted.

Share your artistic impression as part of Ancient City Mosaic
Artists of all ages and ability levels are invited to share their artist impression of St. Augustine by participating in Ancient City Mosaic presented by Michaels Stores®, a project that will showcase the creative talent of the local and regional community.
The 450-piece exhibit, the number of pieces is representative of St. Augustine’s upcoming anniversary, will first be displayed throughout the St. Johns County community at all six St. Johns County Public Library System locations and the St. Augustine Art Association. The exhibit will then be brought together and featured as a grand 450-piece mosaic. The exhibit will first be on display at all six St. Johns County Public Library System locations and the St. Augustine Art Association from May 3 to June 1. The exhibit will then be displayed as a grand 450-piece mosaic from June 15 to Aug. 10.

Anderson Circle closed
For the next month Anderson Cir., between Charlotte St. and Cathedral Pl. will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The closure is necessary for AT&T to install conduit via a directional bore under the Matanzas River. In order to accommodate traffic along Charlotte St. the loading zone and parking spaces will be used as the traffic travel lane and parking on Anderson St. will be inaccessible.

The City Commission of the City of St. Augustine is accepting applications for two volunteer boards:
First is to fill a one (1) term vacancy on the St. Augustine Firefighters Retirement Pension Board of Trustees. Interested individuals who reside within the city limits should submit applications by Friday, March 1, 2013. Appointment is tentatively scheduled to be made by the Commission at its March 11 meeting.
The second is to fill two three (3) year term expirations on the Historic Architectural Review Board. Interested individuals who reside within the city limits should submit applications by March 15, 2013. Appointment is scheduled to be made by the Commission at its March 25, 2013 meeting.

Sea Your History Weekend: Oh My Stars!
How mariners navigate their ships by using the location of celestial bodies is the theme of a special weekend presentation at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum, 81 Lighthouse Ave. Friday from 3-6 p.m. visitors can help Lighthouse archaeologists unlock the secrets of long-lost shipwrecks. Saturday at 9 a.m., visitors can meet and work with traditional wooden boatbuilding as they build a boat from centuries gone by. At 11 a.m., a Smithsonian Presentation gives visitors an opportunity to meet some of the people who make the Smithsonian the world’s leader in research and exploration. What Could Be Exhibition
Artist Anna von Mertens’ What Could Be exhibition at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, 48 Sevilla St., in St. Augustine. The artist meticulously translates empirical data about subjects as far ranging as energy in nuclear explosions to auras in historical paintings into paintings and hand-dyed and hand-stitched fabrics. Searle’s Sack of St. Augustine
Authentic re-enactment of Captain Robert Searle’s 1668 attack on St. Augustine. Searle and his privateers sailed from Jamaica to loot the silver ingots held in the royal coffers at St. Augustine. During the day, the Raiders will have an encampment set up at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in the evening re-enactors will attack the city’s Spanish soldiers and colonial citizens. Beginning at the Plaza at 5 p.m. townspeople and soldiers will flee up St. George St. to the City’s historic gate at Orange and Cordova Streets where the skirmish continues. Night Fest at The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum
A celebration of historic preservation, community gatherings and family outings from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the St. Augustine Lighthouse, 81 Lighthouse Ave. Night Fest begins at 4:30 p.m. with the 5k Walk and Fun Run starting at 5:30 p.m.. Then, at dusk, the French lens comes alive with light at the top of the tower. A special presentation on navigating by the stars will be presented via the Smithsonian Institutions Affiliates Program. A local cooking contest will also be featured with voting from attendees. Plus, there will be boatbuilding, a crafts tent and a new shipyard play area for children. This 3rd annual festival hosted by The Florida Agricultural Museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will open with Linda Cole whose unique blend of blues and jazz was shaped by some of the artists she has performed with including the Count Basie Orchestra, Spyro Gryra, and Chuck Mangione.
