Tuning up the Denver Police Department
Apr 13th
Pretty much if you are the wrong color, or class and you are a little out of line…you need to watch your ass around the Denver PD. They have always had that reputation.
“On Monday, safety manager Charles Garcia terminated officers Ricky Nixon and Kevin Devine, who were accused of excessive force for an incident caught on camera outside the Denver Diner in 2009. The two were dismissed for “commission of a deceptive act.” Garcia found that the reports they filed after the arrests did not match other witness accounts.” according to the Denver Post
Garcia is the new public safety manager overseeing fire and police and he’s not in the mood for any bullshit. Apparently, he’s fired six officers so far this year and has sped up the firing process by eliminating police review board. He just fires em. The police Union and it’s lawyers are fit to be tied but word is on the street, if you are a Denver cop you better get some sensitivity training or find another Job. Pro wresting is hiring.
We think this is all good. If it didn’t happen only increased violence by disenfranchised citizens toward the police would result. Los Angeles is a prime example. The police lost that city in the 80’s under police chief Daryl Gates and it took 20 years to get it back. When people feel threaten by police they start shooting back as was a daily occurrence in LA. We don’t want that to happen here.
Boulder PD instituted a policy of Community Policing when tom Koby was chief and it has been carried on by Mark Beckner. As a result the community is a lot nicer.

The major update process happens every five years to reflect changes in circumstances and community desires. The BVCP indicates the preferred long-term use of land in the Boulder Valley and provides guidance for zoning and development decisions. It is adopted by four bodies: The City of Boulder Planning Board, the City Council, the County Planning Commission, and the Board of County Commissioners.

Johnson's Corner on I-25 north to Loveland
Jul 9th
Yesterday, Thursday was “free pie day” with any meal over 8.95. $8.95 happens to be the highest average price on the menu so you already know this place is not over priced. Johnson’s Corner pies are baked in their kitchen every morning and there is a selection of approximately 12 pies. Now the pies are not as good as Sally’s home made pies at Great Harvest Bread Company in Boulder, but they are pretty darn good. Back in the day when Mrs Johnson made all of the pies they were to die for. But still these pies are top notch.
Our favorite is Millionaire Pie. The apple pie is very good as is the seasonal peach and strawberry pies. Lemon Meringue is excellent and the Chocolate cream is good too. The Custard and pumpkin pies are also very good. The blueberry and cherry pies are good. The banana cream pie has real bananas in it. Then there is the mince pie and rhubarb ..well the list goes on.
But where can you go in Boulder to order this magnitude of fresh baked pies. Nowhere. In fact most restaurants don’t serve pie.
You might want rent the 2007 Sun Dance award winning movie “Waitress” if you are into pies and incredible cinema color.
You’ll have the munches afterwards . Then head out to Johnson’s corner.
Even though this review is about pies, we have to mention what we ate for dinner. Sliced Turkey breast, stuffing and mashed potatoes, peas and coffee. Total bill $12.00. Also, there is a boatload of kitsch in the truck stop store so you can buy a bumper sticker that reads: “Would you mind not driving so close, while I’m on the phone”
This place is “so not Boulder”, that it fits perfectly.
